Combined pill & HRT

I've recently been prescribed oestrogen gel and progesterone capsules (Utrogestan?)after experiencing a range of symptoms. However, the GP told me to continue taking my combined pill as otherwise I wouldn't be covered for contraception. After reading a bit about the meds, I read that the pill shouldn't be taken with HRT, so am a bit confused, and wondered if anyone had any knowledge or experience? I will try and ask the GP, but hard to get hold of!

As far as I know, you can only take the mini pill alongside HRT, not the combined.

I was on the combined pill and the GP asked me to come off it before starting HRT. At the time, I didn't actually need it for contraceptive purposes anyway but the GP wouldn't give me a script until I'd confirmed that I'd stop taking the combined pill. However, that GP, and another one that I'd previously spoken to, didn't seem very clued up about my situation (taking the combined pill and experiencing menopause symptoms) and both said that they'd has to read up on so it seems to be a bit of an unusual situation.

sorry. last sentence went adrift: both said that they'd had to read up on it so it seems to be a bit of an unusual situation.

Thanks for your responses, looks like my GP is a little unclear on what to have prescribed!
