How many pumps?

I've picked up a prescription of oestrogel today 80g. Each dose is 1.25g=0.75 estradiol.

Prescription reads-"apply 3 pumps each day to each thigh"

I was expecting 3 pumps per day but this reads like it's 3 per thigh so 6!

I've had to come off my patches due to reaction so don't really want to wait until I can get through to the doctors tomorrow.

Is anyone able to offer some advice please?

It’s unlikely to be 6 pumps. That would be a pretty high dose. 1-4 is standard.

I think it means apply a total of 3 pumps worth of gel to your thighs. It’s just badly worded.

Thank you-that's what I was thinking but just needed some help. I thought 6 was high. 😀

Wow that's a lot. Mine says 1 pump but I went up to 2 after a year.

I use 1 pump am and 1 pump pm Hmm

@iamjustwinginglife no worries, yes 6 would be high! You’d probably get sore boobs and feel a bit crap!

@LadyEggs you could do them together, no need to divide your doses.

3 pumps isn’t a massive amount, it’s equivalent to a 75mcg patch really. 4 pumps would be a 100mcg patch. I tend to start women on 2 pumps daily and adjust from there.

Sidge I never knew! I just did what my GP suggested but I'll try combining.

The starting dose is 2 pumps, as explained on the leaflet in the carton.
Some consultants suggest 1 pump for a few weeks then work upwards as your body adjusts, or needs more.

You use as much or as little as necessary to control your symptoms.

3 or 4 pumps are higher doses.

Most doses are 1mg or 2 mgs estrogen (tablet form.)

2 pumps of gel is a medium dose. That's 1.5mgs.

I've read that the amount of oestrogen you need depends on your bmi, everything else being equal. The higher your bmi the more oestrogen your body needs and vice versa
