Is Polyp removal then a Mirena coil belt and braces?

History: Been on HRT for 3.5 years, peri symptoms started a year before that (thanks GP).
Had madly irregular bleeds for a year now so the GP changed me to daily Utrogestan (plus Oestrogen patch). Three months later no change so had a scan, polyp found. Six months later (waiting lists) they tried to remove it but apparently my cervix is too long to do awake. So I have to have a GA.
All well and good. But the consultant recommended I have the Mirena coil fitted at the same time. I don’t quite understand this (yes I know I can ask them but likely can’t get access until the day of the procedure)- if the polyp is thought to be causing the mad bleeding how will they know it’s sorted if the coil goes straight in?

I had a uterine polyp removed- which was causing heavy bleeding. My gynaecologist also inserted a mirena coil at the same time as removing the polyp to stop any other polyps growing back. All done under GA in less than an hour. Have oestrogen HRT patches too help with menopause symptoms. Bleeding has totally stopped and I feel I have my life back.

Ah that’s the bit which wasn’t explained to me, thank you!
Glad to hear things are now sorted for you.
