Sore boobs!

I'm in peri and I started on HRT about a month ago; I have 2 pumps of the gel, and I've already got the Mirena fitted. I haven't seen a huge difference yet, although sleeping is starting to get a little easier. BUT... the thing I've noticed most is that my breasts are always so painful!

I think they may have grown a little (might just be wishful thinking 😂), so thought that could explain it... growing pains?! But, particularly at night, they always feel sore.

I read somewhere that some women had noticed if they put the gel on their arms, they felt more tenderness in the breasts, so I've started to just use it on my thighs but still no change.

Any ideas, any advice?

I think this can happen at first on hrt; iirc I had a little tenderness and it settled. A friend's boobs were v sore.

NotAnotherTaco · 01/01/2023 13:07

Thanks. I've been on a run this morning in my normal sports bra, which is usually perfect support, but today my boobs were agony!! Hope it settles soon

I've been on HRT patches since August, and I've just noticed the breast tenderness this past couple of months. I've also had brief but painful bloating and period type pains this month and last. I am keeping a note and if it's no better next month I'll see the doctor I think.

BighairandIdontcare · 05/01/2023 14:24

I’ve been on 2 pumps of gel and tablets since September (on patches before that) and my boobs have been really painful for the last month. However I’ve not had a period this month so I’m wondering if my body is just getting used to it? I also suffered with sore boobs every now and then before HRT and was hoping HRT would stop this. It’s so annoying! (Plus I get terrible health anxiety and sore boobs makes me feel more anxious)

NotAnotherTaco · 05/01/2023 20:08

It's def no fun is it @BighairandIdontcare

The last few nights I've been wearing a support bra to sleep in - nothing wired, or too constricting but just a basic crop top style. It's really helped me and I'm not being woken up by pain.

I've also had to invest in a proper sports bra - running has been so painful! Previously I've always been able to get away with the lightest of support, but now I've had to go for full on scaffolding 🙈

Yes I wear a support bra in bed too but they are still sore. They feel better when I wear a bra during the day but when I take it off to shower, ouchy! I’m having blood tests done next week so will speak to the doctor then. I’ve not had a period this month so I’m wondering if this type of HRT has unsettled my hormones!

cushioncovers · 05/01/2023 21:16

This happened to me. It lasted a few weeks and was very sore to the point where I didn't think I could continue using HRT. I couldn't even shower or get dressed without wincing in pain. But after about 2 months it starting to reduce and eventually it stopped altogether.

WarriorN · 06/01/2023 20:05

The only thing that might help, simply as it's a known thing to have tender breasts when Breastfeeding and periods begin to re start, something to do with fluctuating hormones, is to try some magnesium and calcium supplement (at night can help sleep.) some say star flower can as well.

Meltinthemiddle · 08/01/2023 22:44

Hi not Notanothertaco I have started the gel this week and also have the mirena. My boobs feel swollen and sore too.so hoping it will ease. I'm doing HRT as a trial based in my symptoms so will see if there is any improvement l.

Hollyhocksandtulips · 08/01/2023 22:45

Mine is more tender nipples like in early pregnancy type sore!

Meltinthemiddle · 08/01/2023 23:02

How long have you been on it Holly?

Angiebaby3 · 27/01/2023 07:43

Hello, I've had sore heavy and tender boobs now for 2 weeks, and I haven't a clue why.
I turned 40 in December and when I first got them I knew it was a menstrual thing. I have an implant for contraception reasons, I've never known this feeling to lasted this long, or maybe I've been so busy I've not tuned into myself properly.
Could this be the beginning of perimenapause? I've got an appointment with a nurse booked for next week, and I've been at my wit's end worrying about what it could be.. I've got 2 small sons and even when they cuddle me it hurts. It's like tender. When I wear a bra they tend to not bother me until I touch them, it's just really uncomfy now and they just feel heavy.
I'm sorry I can't offer advice for your issues, I've just jumped on this post hoping for some help from you wonderful lot too. P.s this is my first post. X

YellowHpok · 27/01/2023 07:49

I'm peri and 40 and sore boots is one of my symptoms. Interesting that others get it on HRT. I've not started HRT so it's helpful to know it might get worse before it gets better.

Angiebaby3 · 27/01/2023 11:11

Thank you for your message yellophok.

I don't know if this is what it is, I've been worried sick, I'm hoping a nurse will shed some light or send me for tests, I don't know if anything can be detected in bloods ?

Dogsgottabone · 27/01/2023 13:48

@Angiebaby3 I had pain like that in my breasts every month for a week before my period since my 20s. I'm now 44. I bet its nothing to worry about at all. Hope you get it sorted.

BighairandIdontcare · 27/01/2023 19:17

Angiebaby3 I started getting really sore boobs around age 42…I went to the doctor and although she couldn’t detect any lumps she referred me to the breast clinic. All was fine, just hormonal and very common when we reach peri menopause. My boobs are still aching on HRT, I spoke to the nurse yesterday and she said to give it a few more months as it takes at least 6 months for your body to adjust. I think they are feeling a little less sore, weirdly they seem to feel worse in the morning and once I’m showered with a proper bra on they feel better. I do wear a sleep bra at night to try and support them but they still hurt in the morning. Weird and annoying!

Angiebaby3 · 28/01/2023 00:13

Thank you ladies,
I appreciate your replies and experience. It's worrying isn't it , and I think when you get older and youre a parent, you worry more. I tell you, the things us women have to put up with! We are amazing in that way.

I went out tonight with my mam and although they still feel tender, they feel less. So that was a nice break.
I'm going to try and have a good chat with the nurse via the triage phonecall 🙄 and see what she says. These posts have been reassuring in the fact that I'm not alone in this uncomfortable feeling. So thank you.

I just want it to settle down a bit really. Thank you and take care everyone
X

WhereAreWeNow · 28/01/2023 19:42

I had excruciatingly painful swollen breasts on the gel. I switched back to patches and they settled down. No pain whatsoever on the patches.

JuneFromBethesda · 29/01/2023 16:12

Very glad to find this thread as I’m experiencing exactly the same thing. I had a Mirena coil put in a week ago and started in Oestrogel the same day, just one pump. My breasts have been sore ever since.

I was previously taking HRT in pill form and had no side-effects at all so this has surprised me a bit. I hope it settles down - if not perhaps I’ll try the patches as @WhereAreWeNow says.

NotAnotherTaco · 29/01/2023 16:24

Glad to say mine has now settled down and there's no more tenderness. I still sleep in a support bra most nights, but more out of habit & comfort than a need.

That’s good to hear @NotAnotherTaco. I hope I have the same experience!

RunnyPaint · 29/01/2023 20:58

I'm finding this thread quite reassuring. I used to have breast tenderness before my period, and it has started happening again more recently, but it seems to last longer and the pain is different somehow. I'm 48 and not taking HRT, and no other real symptoms of peri yet.
