Was on HRT (Sandrena 1mg gel everyday and 200mg Utrogestan tablets 14 days every 28 days) from May 2022. Anyway, long story short I didn't read the prescription correctly and ended up just taking the Sandrena gel everyday for 6 months. At the beginning of this month I started bleeding heavily and after 14 days contacted my GP who told me to stop all HRT until they investigate the cause of the bleeding (urgent referral to gynaecologist). So, I'm now day 28 of bleeding and I stopped taking the HRT over 10 days ago. Not heard from the hospital yet about the referral and was just wondering if anyone had any words of wisdom as to what I may have done to my body and what I can expect, as in have I done permanent damage or will this all sort itself out? Tia

Chase up your referral- call your GP.
You are supposed to be seen within the 2-week referral guidance for this kind of thing.

Did your GP explain what has happened?
Your womb lining has become very thick on estrogen-only. It's now shedding all in one go, rather than each month which happens when you use progesterone.

You will most likely have an ultrasound scan of your womb and maybe a hysteroscopy- small camera- to check that the lining is normal.

Thank you for this info as the GP didn't go through it with me other than to say they were doing an urgent referral. To be honest, I thought this bleed was very similar to the one you'd have after giving birth. So, what you've said makes total sense.

Fingers crossed that is all that is happening and that everything will return to normal in the near future.

Thank you again ❤️
