Hi to anyone that is able to help. I'm on Eostrogen patches 50 and utrogestan vaginally 100mg every other night all month . This seems to be working , I have just been given Tostran but have not started it as yet .

I have read in Newsons site that 50mg of Eostrogen is not enough to be beneficial. Is this the case ? I am petrified of dementia which has taken every single female on my mums side so I want to make sure I am getting the correct dose . My GP and gynae obviously just go from the NHS guidelines and pretend to not have even heard of Louise newson !!!! And basically note it everyone that Iv gone a bit rogue by using things in a unlicensed way . Anyway I'm not worried about all that because other countries have evidence based info to support it we are just lagging behind . QUESTION Does anyone know if 50 is worth taking or should I increase to 75 ? Thanks

A 50mcg patch is a medium dose. It's more than 1mg of estrogen in tablet form and roughly the same as 2 pumps of gel.

I'm not sure where you have read otherwise on LN's site. I've not seen it there.

Can you copy and paste the part?

More important is why are you using Utrogestan only every other night?
The dose is 100mgs (1 capsule) every night.
(Or 12 days x 200mgs for women on sequential.)

Has your GP advised the alternate nights?
If this has come from guidance by LN, it's incorrect and the BMS has issued a statement showing concern on under-dosing.

Sorry I'm confused by some of your post. Are you saying you have 'gone rogue' meaning you have decided to reduce the Utrogestan?

This is not good and it's been discussed in the press last week, with the BMS saying they are very worried about this.

The lower dose was based on one single study. Since then there have been more cases of hyperplasia which is why the BMS has spoken out on it.

If you or your GP perhaps organises a scan of your womb once a year, to check everything, that's one way to get round it.

Sorry I'm not sure how to use Mumsnet so don't know if I'm replying to you jingle !?!?

I'm trying to find the info re 50 being too low . re utrogestan I was originally given it orally 12 on 12 off 290 each day . This was horrendous and gave me the same feelings as when I had tiblone years ago. So I changed to 100 every other day vaginally ( 6days in total across the 12). I was worried I was not getting enough . I asked gynaecologist at a recent app (for testosterone) and she said yes as your patch is so low you are fine . I then said can I take 100 vaginally every other day for the whole month and she yes but you will mess your period up if that's not a concern then yes it should be fine . This does agree with me and Iv felt great using 50 patch and 100 utrogestan every other day . (That's what I meant by going rogue )
