Coming off HRT at 60

My GP told me to come off HRT at 60. I thought ok I'll give it a go.
Three weeks later what a disaster.
I became a complete emotional wreck, hot flushes returned, I felt like a low current of electricity was passing through my body, I didn't sleep, I had a massive arthritis flare up and had to walk with sticks.
I work in the NHS full time and found I was nibbling at colleagues and I never do that, one of them asked me if she had offended me.
I insisted on being put back on it so here I am back on HRT until I retire.
I am only on the very lowest dose of oestrogen so surely it couldn't have affected me that much. Everything else has been ruled out, lots of blood tests.
I feel like I'm never going to be off it!

Genuine question -why do you want to get off it? I know there are risks but I didn't think at 60 it was any huge increase

Your gp should have advised you to taper off slowly over a few weeks.

If you don't want to come off it, don't. If you have read that risks do increase even if only a small increase and have decided to come off it then reduce slowly to allow your body to adjust. Go to every other day for a couple of weeks and so on.

I don't want to come off it, my GP keeps asking me to. I've said I'm not trying again until I retire now.
