Why would I randomly bleed like this?

I'm 51 with regular periods. They have been a lot heavier than they used to be (was lucky enough to have 30 years of light periods) but they arrive on time each month give or take 1 day.

I'm currently due on in 12 days yet last night I appeared to come on. Quite a lot of blood which filled one towel and Literally 12 days after my last period ended Confused And today there doesn't appear to be anything much!

So I'm confused.

I had a scan only 5 months ago (due to the heavy bleeding) and it revealed all was normal bar one small fibroid

So am I to just assume this is purely due to my age? It seems pointless to call the doctor because A my scan was so recent and B I'll never be seen!

Any thoughts appreciated

I’m like this too and I assume it’s peri stage. My periods always were very regular like a clock, every 28 days and lasted strictly 5 days my whole life.
Suddenly last year after I had Astra Z jab it all came to a halt and it’s so over the place.
It comes anytime it fancies, like I can two normallish months and then again, it comes after 10-12 days.
I had recently two private scans and all was ok.
im 48 so I assume it’s normal now..

I'm sorry you're having this problem too .. I'm 51 and had the same symptoms .. in line to get a could fitted but currently on progesterone so I can get a work trip out the way without having to worry.. I wish I had gone to the doctors earlier .. hope you can get some help
.. I can fully empathise how utterly miserable it is to have to deal with this and function with our normal lives xxx

Coil not could x

I was told that declinimg progesterone means there’s nothing to counter oestrogen.

I was advised to have a mirena and foolishly didn’t.

OP snap.

My last period finished a fortnight ago and then on Friday I started bleeding heavily again.

Am due a scan this week as GP thinks fibroids. I passed a clot so big last night I felt it slither out 🤮

Dogsgottabone · 28/11/2022 12:30

Oh and I am just nearly 45 and waiting for the result of this scan before I start HRT

Dogsgottabone · 28/11/2022 12:34

It's my third period since October half term and I'm sick of it!

ChocChipOwl · 28/11/2022 13:00

Sorry to hear so many others experience this

Honestly, until I turned 46, I had never had a heavy period in my life. Didn't appreciate this at the time of course!

@Dogsgottabone oh gosh yes. I've had this clot thing before. I can feel them coming out and it makes me go all funny and weird! Erk

I don't want the coil. I'm not sure if I could have my mind changed? Probably not tbh. I don't have many symptoms of peri menopause (bit stuff sometimes and the heavy periods but that's it) so I'm loathe to HRT myself just yet as a preventative measure.

Its hard to know what to do sometimes as the Davina effect etc etc makes you feel that HRT is the holy grail and I'm sure it is for a lot of people but I'm still on the fence despite having some prescribed and stashed away!

I've just had a sudden thought!

I had covid 3 weeks ago which coincided with my last period. Hmmm

I've been umming and ahhing about the coil. But it might be a moot point, as I went in to talk about my periods and instead left after being told I have several prolapses which are all of a sudden feeling awful after my endless bleeding. Not sure a mirena would stay in.

Am waiting for a scan and then will see what my options are.

I’m browsing this thread, and am interested. I got a mirena coil a few years ago (age 45) for chronic flooding, periods lasting for weeks and weeks, and it was a godsend. I had to get it replaced as it kind of shifted to one side, and bleeding resumed, so I’m now in year 3 of my ‘new’ coil, which again stopped the periods almost immediately. Because of that I’ve no measure of periods, but I have hot flushes and exhaustion. Does the coil mask other symptoms, or how do I know where I’m at menopause-wise?
