Peri-anxiety

How do you all cope with peri anxiety?

I wake up at night with my heart racing, I feel so anxious about everything no matter how small or insignificant which I never had until a year or so again.

I am on HRT: estrogen gel and progesterone tablets, I was even given xanax (I don't like taking it as it makes me feel almost drunk). I try to talk myself down which sometimes works but I hate feeling like this all the time.

I'm the same, but 4 years post meno! I'm anxious about everything. I'm on hrt too, but it doesn't help the anxiety sadly. I feel for you as it's horrid.

Me too. My anxiety is horrible, especially in the night. I'm not on HRT so interested to hear that it isn't really helping with this.

I started taking Epsom salt baths, which helped, then I added in magnesium tablets, which helped even more.
Stopping alcohol also helped massively.

You might not be on a high enough dose of HRT. How long have you been taking it? I found my anxiety decreased almost right away, within 2 or 3 days I was improving. I'm feeling it coming back now and I have an appointment booked to see what they can offer me.

I also find that mindfulness works well for me, apps like Headspace. And getting out for a walk when possible.

I've been on it for a year, so yes maybe it's too low of a dose, I hadn't thought about that.

I had a lot of stress during lockdown and thought it was that, but the stressful time has past and I still feel the same horrible feeling in my chest every day 2 years later.

I have tried various meditations, journaling but I don't seem to be able to keep them up - I should re try.

Kangarookenny - yes I am sure alcohol is not helping. I've reduced my intake a bit, but I find it impossible to stop (possibly a whole other thread!)
