Progesterone

Hello ,
I started taking progesterone 9th November ( on the day of my period ) my doctor advised me to do this . I stopped taking it last night ( just two pumps of estrogen ). I am planning on taking it again 7th December . Does that sound about right ? Will I get another period ? My boobs are very swollen and I feel like I am about to get a period . The HRT is already helping with my brain fog, which was my main symptom. I was still getting periods and no night sweats ( age 46)

@Sweetie1980 that doesn't sound right. You are supposed to take the progesterone on day 14 of the cycle (so 14 days after the day your last period started) for either 12 days or 14 days continuously - depending on usual length of your cycle) - then usually when you stop your period will come after a couple of days. You then 'restart' the clock for the purpose of the 14 days. I would go back and check that with your GP as I think they've got it wrong.

@Sweetie1980 @Arcadia

It doesn't matter when you start taking it. Some women have very irregular periods (maybe once every 3-4 months) and can't wait for mid-cycle when they start HRT.

My consultant advises women to choose a day of the month that is easy to remember- such as the 1st or the 15th- and stick with that date.

Eventually this will set a regular cycle. But it is not your own cycle, it's an HRT cycle.

The idea of 2 weeks out of 28 days is also rather complicated, and it's much easier to take 12/14 days each month, and forget about counting to 28 days.
You can choose either 12 days or 14 days. If you bleed a lot, 14 days may lessen the bleed.

Normal cycles rarely have 28 days - the leaflet has chosen an 'average' cycle of 28 days, but in reality (not using hrt) some women have cycles of 25 days and anywhere up to 35 days.

Thank you . I have been bleeding for 8 days so far since stopping and am due to take it again 7th December . Hoping it will settle down soon .

It can all be a bit random when you first start which is why they say to give it all a good 3-4 months.

Your cycle will sync eventually
