Aching joints and new mattress

Allmouthnoaction · 22/11/2022 07:00

Wonder if anyone can suggest a new mattress due to having menopausal aching mussels and joints.

I currently am on HRT but think I need to get it reviewed due to the above.

We are badly due a new mattress as I feel this also makes it worse and wondered if anyone can recommend one that has helped them?

Thanks

John Ryan … no question!

With respect, I don’t think any of us can recommend a mattress. It’s such a personal choice. The only thing I will say is to buy a pocket spring as this helps control the awareness of movement by your partner if they’re restless at night/get up to pee etc.

Some people swear by Hypnos brand or wool filled mattresses but they’re very expensive. (There’s also a lot of profit in mattresses so shop around. Also, I don’t recommend buying via the internet unseen/untried.)

Go to a bed shop & try out a few! It’s fun if you don’t feel too self conscious about lying around in public. The sales people expect you to loll about!

Apparently a mattress needs changing every 8 to 10 years so they (in the bed shops) tell us, but I’m not entirely convinced!

There are two thoughts here…
If your mattress is past it’s best and you seem to know it is, change it.

Your aching joints might be improved but maybe not & you’ll need medication to help with that. Until you replace your mattress you’ll never know!

I have aches and pains and have two toppers on my bed. A thicker microfibre one from Soak and Sleek and a thinner natural wool one which is great for temperature regulation.

My bed is lovely and better than when I go to a hotel...though admittedly I don't go to the Savoy!

Agree with others, you need a new mattress. Ours is from John Ryan as well, the will give advice over the phone. Avoid memory foam like the plague if you are menopausal!

Cod liver oil has helped my peri aching joints.
Try Epsom salt baths too.

@KangarooKenny have you found a more palatable way to take the codliver? The capsules make me nauseous

I’ve never had a problem with them, but I do take them with my evening meal.
