Spotting before period

Hi - I’m experiencing spotting before my period. Has been consistent now for about 6 months. My cycle used to be 33 days, but now it’s 29 with spotting from day 25.
I’m 42, so assuming this is peri related. Recent smear was clear and the nurse suggested it could be.
Has anyone had this and how was it treated? Trying to work out if it’s worth seeing someone about really. I’m not having any other symptoms, except maybe some worsening of PMT.
Is there anything I can take to help - or is it just one of those things?
any advice appreciated.

Hi I had this about a year ago and eventually spoke to my gp on the phone of course 🙄. He ordered bloods and it turned out I have a cyst ( I have endometriosis chocolate cysts) but he also thought it was a polyp. Turned out it wasn't and I don't seem to have the spotting anymore. Waiting for an appointment about the cyst. Not sure if this is helpful.

That is helpful @teaandtoastwithmarmite

maybe I need to talk to a gp and not just assume it’s peri related.
thanks - and I’m glad it stopped for you, whatever it was!

I've had this since I was 42 - the spotting and also shortening of my cycle. I'm now 47 and still have it. I read something which explained it - can't remember what it said but maybe related to too much or too little progesterone. I think your hormones are a bit out of whack in your 40s. I've never seen a doctor about it but please do if you're worried.

Thanks @SallyWD - I don’t feel worried and think it’s probably hormones. But then I tend to not worry about things I should do, so now I’m worrying I’m not worried enough 😳

Sounds like low progesterone - I had this as well as worsening pmt. Started hrt recently to try to even things out a bit

I had this and had an ultrasound (due to previous breast cancer I now check out anything unusual) and it was a uterine polyp. Had it removed under GA. It was actually a very relaxing experience and I got two days off work 😊

It’s so frustrating, early days I would have loved my period to be mental so I could have joined the dots sooner! My periods are suddenly closer together and lighter, Newson don’t seem worried at all and so I’m trying not to be! I’m encouraged by your experience @Amarette! And wish I was more like you @Triceratopsrock! 💕
