Just wondering what other peoples experience is- can I expect long gaps for a while or will my periods just stop now.

Longer gaps, shorter gaps... Mine started going irregular in the last 18 months, and it's varied between 21 days and 49 days. Plus one splendid 16 day stretch of bleeding over my birthday.

Your actual menopause is when it's a year since your last period.

mintywinter · 08/10/2022 16:47

Thanks Bearhug. Just checked and my last period was 63 days ago. I did have one long gap of about 60 days then a 15 day one Confusedbut this is the longest I've gone now.

I was really irregular then went 9 months, thought I was done.

But no, here it is :(

Weirdlynormal · 08/10/2022 16:51

I skipped a whole 11 months then a final swan song. Don’t forget contraception!.., many a ‘change of life baby’ has been conceived

Always4Brenner · 08/10/2022 16:51

I’m six months now nothing .

lightisnotwhite · 08/10/2022 16:54

Did you get your normal warning signs before it cam back? Didn’t get one last month for the first time. Absolutely no idea how to prepare for this month. I’m not in the sort of job you can find a loo when you want to either.

mintywinter · 08/10/2022 16:57

Oh wow that would be a shock getting one after 9 or 11 months Shock it's odd isn't it - now am I meant to walk round with sanpro at all times?! or as lightisnotwhite says did you get a sign or pmt feeling before it came back?

whirlyhead · 08/10/2022 17:01

I didn’t even think about it until one day I realised I hadn’t had a period for over 3 years!

HPFA · 09/10/2022 20:40

I had eighteen months without a period then had bleeding - a scan was indeterminate so had to have a hysteroscopy to rule out cancer.

Six weeks after that had another one - no need to investigate this time.

Then nine months later another episode - had a scan again but with a better result than before so wasn't put forward for hysto..

Six months later - guess what??? Currently waiting to hear from the GP who has had to contact gynae to see if they want to investigate yet again! Seems there is no real protocol.

So I have no idea whether I'm actually menopausal or not - I went over a year so technically I am - but maybe I never was!

So if you are going to have another one OP make sure it's before a year has passed or you'll have no end of trouble! 😆😆

frogswimming · 09/10/2022 20:48

I had a baby at 43 and was breast feeding. My periods stopped for 2 years and I thought by some stroke of luck I had also gone through menopause. But no. Now my cycle is usually around 60 days but could be 3 weeks or 3 months.

mintywinter · 12/10/2022 20:46

Update: it has turned up Hmm

EBearhug · 12/10/2022 22:24

So's mine, just 18 days after the last one, which is just unnecessary

LilacLemur · 12/10/2022 22:37

I'm 53 and for the last 4 years my gaps have ranged from 9 days to 130 days and everything in between. And when they've been absent for anything longer than 30 days I have the heaviest bleeding. Honestly thought it would all be over by now 🙄

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 13/10/2022 02:25

I'm 50 and have been tracking since March last year, my cycles have been anything between 26 and 102 days. My average cycle length is definitely increasing over time though, along with other symptoms like hot flushes.

It's worth considering that lots of women have reported variations in their cycle following Covid vaccinations. My 102 day cycle followed my 2nd Pfizer jab and I know 2 women who were in menopause and had periods restart after a Covid jab.

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 13/10/2022 02:26

I meant to add - I also sometimes get all my regular PMT symptoms without the bleeding. Weird.

theculture · 13/10/2022 02:33

For those having to worry about irregular periods and work etc can I recommend the Mirena coil

Years of the heaviest periods replaced with a week of light spotting

I'm not a saleswoman Smile

mintywinter · 13/10/2022 19:38

This one has turned into just spotting so far.
So's mine, just 18 days after the last one, which is just unnecessary
I've had a few like that too EBearhug - sympathies - 15 days at one point!

OP posts:
Abraxan · 13/10/2022 19:41

I have no real regularity anymore and haven't for a little while now. The gap between can be as short as 2 weeks and the longest has been over 3 months.

Wish I could just have it all stop entirely now.

Knickerthief1 · 13/10/2022 19:42

I went 8 months, then had two periods, then 11 months and a day of spotting, then 10 months and a 32 day period! Had a hysteroscopy a few weeks ago and all looks clear. Really hoping the extra long period was my last hurrah!!

KangFang · 13/10/2022 19:47

Watching with interest.
Is it possible to just stay on the pill, such as Cerazette, to avoid all this nonsense?
Does anyone know?

mintywinter · 13/10/2022 20:23

Wow Knickerthief1 a 32 day period Shock

OP posts:
AliMonkey · 13/10/2022 20:30

It's about four years since I first had a two month gap and since then I've had gaps of anywhere between 2 and 11 months, with 4-6 month gaps being most common, so get ready for a long time of not knowing when it's going to stop. The 11 month gap was the most frustrating as I was sure that was going to be it, but unfortunately not!

mintywinter · 13/10/2022 22:56

That's a long time for you to go through this AliMonkey! Hope yours ends soon.

OP posts:
GelatoQueen · 13/10/2022 23:00

I had an irregular cycle anywhere between 25-33 day for 18 months, no skipped periods, and then nothing since mid June. I'm hoping this is it. I've had another
