HRT has been working out well for me overall - it has solved my early morning waking and night sweats, and improved (if not perfected) my low mood. But my hair, which was thinning anyway, is coming out in clumps. I am trying to only wash it twice a week. When I do, I feel a clump falling down my back. Pic attached to show how much I lose in the shower (finger for scale!)
I’ve been using Newson Clinic for private HRT prescription. On my last consult, they suggested maybe adding testosterone next time we spoke (due to do so in Nov). But as far as I can tell from a Google, testosterone can make hair loss worse.
could it be thyroid? Is it just one of those things? I think I need to find an actual endocrinologist/meno consultant to see. Does anyone have a recommendation please? I’m only 45 and still having periods. Thank you for any thoughts.

Hhmmm. I would have thought the Newson clinic would be the best in the UK. I wonder if it's more a dermatologist that specialises in hair loss that you need. I have a similar issue and I think it's Telogen Effluvium after I had (almost asymptomatic) Covid in May this year. I'm on Oestrogel, testosterone and I have an underactive thyroid but I think it was covid that's causing my hair loss.
I am seeing a dermatologist in December as I would like an opinion on whether I have TE or AGA. I would also want to check if I should stop my testosterone. I've been on it for 5 years but have only noticed hair loss very recently so I didn't think it's linked.
Good luck!

I feel I wrote this! I am 45 still have periods although very light. I paid to see an expense menopause specialist she prescribed me HRT 6 months on I have lost half my hair! I’ve stopped taking the HRT it’s been 3 weeks still losing hair I wish I never touched HRT.

I could have written this, too.

Completely confused as to whether I need more oestrogen (I’m on patches but my levels still aren’t good) or it’s the HRT that has prompted the hair loss and I should stop completely.

I’m getting the same kind of clump come out when washing my hair. That’s new and it’s upsetting.

i hope you get done good advice.

@Jackaloper I hope I didn't kill your thread!

All the best. Perhaps you could PM or tag me if you get any useful information? Also @LDA4

Just back from having my long hair cut into a bob - I just didn't have enough volume left for it to be long.
