HRT (Utrogestan) and planning / delaying bleeds

Hi, I am 49 and just had a new prescription for HRT from the GP. I don't have regular periods any more, I think the last one was maybe three months ago.

So my question.. I have two weekends away coming up with a new partner :) and would really be keen not to have a bleed when these happen! What day of the cycle does bleeding happen, and could I take the Utrogestan continuously to delay a bleed or is that a bad idea? I've not yet started the treatment as I got very confused about the tablets timing / cycle.

The bleed should come roughly 3-4 days after the last tablet. So if you take them for 12 days, the whole tablet-bleed cycle is roughly 2 weeks before the bleed starts.

Sometimes women don't have a bleed after 1 cycle of HRT, especially if their own estrogen is low, but it varies.

You can start with your gel (or whatever estrogen you have) and delay the progesterone for at least 2 weeks or even slightly longer as this is your first month.

GPs won't tell you this, but some consultants will advise on using estrogen only for a few weeks to get the dose right. I'm not suggesting you do this, but it's worth knowing that the exact timing of your first dose of Utrogestan can vary a little.

To make the whole thing easier, they also advise on taking Utrogestan on the same day each month. So if you started on Oct 15, the next lot would be Nov 16 , etc.

Also be aware that you may still get your own period turning up out of the blue until you establish the new HRT cycle!

Very helpful post jingling just about to change my HRT to different patch and uterogestan but, do find it a bit confusing with cycle timings. Sorry to derail.
