Sex after taking utrogestan vaginally - your stories please!

Hi, I'm due to start taking utrogestan next week and am planning on doing so vaginally, after being very sensitive to progesterone in the past. My question is: do the tablets...um...hang around? Like if you were to hypothetically have sex the next day, are the tablets still in evidence? Or do they just get totally absorbed? Not a thread I'd ever imagine myself starting, but here we are...

They dissolve quite quickly. I only put them in once I'm in bed and we're definitely not going to have sex. They are not at all in evidence the next day. Not that I've been up there with a head torch or anything!

from a slightly different view, I discovered they do hang around and get in the way of a 'smear' test ! they create a sort of 'foam' - but do improve sex

SweetFannyAdamsDog · 14/09/2022 16:31

Oh goodness @tootiredtobother - sorry, I have never had a smear after one so hadn't noticed that. Eek!

tootiredtobother · 14/09/2022 16:34

the nurse tried but said 'no can do' had to go away for a week or so

JinglingHellsBells · 14/09/2022 16:41

Just the 'do they hang around' question...

Yes I find they do, very much, but I use 2 capsules on a cycle, not 1 daily.

Being rather graphic, I have found the outer shell of the capsule in the loo, and a lot of white gunge from the tablet itself. I need to wear pants at night.

I am pretty sure that a reasonable amount is still being absorbed as I've had several scans while on this regime and it seems to work.

If it helps, my Dr did say they can be used vaginally at any time of day (so you can insert during the day) although you need to be wary of the gravity effect (that they don't fall out before being absorbed.)
The reason for taking orally at night is because of the sedation/dizziness factor but this doesn't happen vaginally.

HTH

Thanks everyone for your candid replies, I knew you’d come through! It’s not as if I’m swinging from the chandeliers over here, but I would like to avoid giving my husband a surprise dose of progesterone. I guess timing is key.

ha ha at giving your dh a surprise dose of progesterone!

I only use 1 at night and wear pants in bed anyway.

Any of you lovely ladies having dryness/soreness in the vagina/labia due to Utrogestan? I am finding it quite difficult as I have pain/burning/itching/sensitivity and feel like I can't go on. Any remedies that worked?

Verbena87 · 21/09/2022 22:14

I’ve used it during fertility treatment and omg yes to the burning Fanny @ElephantLover ! On the cycles where I had cyclogest instead it was much better (though this was partly because I alternated using it vaginally and putting them up my bum instead which you can’t do with utrogestan and which might not work if you’re on it as longer term hrt)

ElephantLover · 22/09/2022 08:24

@Verbena87 - thank you for letting me know I am not alone. I am seriously considering Mirena now, was hoping so much that the body identical one would work for me but it's not worth the enormous discomfort! Confused

skylover · 24/09/2022 11:57

Eeeer I have to wear a panty liner at night and sometimes the trickling feeling wakes me up in the night Shock I put them up as high as I can but still get discharge in the morningTennisBlush Just a heads up. Night time shenanagins probably fine!

Glasgow51 · 24/09/2022 13:13

Thank you! I’ve done 2 nights of Utrogestan now and definitely see white bits in the toilet the next morning but it’s not too bad as I manage to tuck the tablets right up behind my cervix 😆 No shenanigans yet, the HRT is giving me such massive mood swings/crashes that I’m not particularly sexy just now!
