Oestrogel & Utrogesten experiences

Hi! Thanks to those who offered their advice on my earlier post. I eventually got around to speaking to the gp and he said it was ok for me to re-start the hrt as my blood pressure is now under control with Ramipril. The last few nights have been absolutely horrible with insomnia and all-over aching (but not sweating) so I rub in two pumps of oestrogel every night, but this hasn't helped so I guess it's a case of building it up over a few months. But I wonder if it will even work at all seeing as I rarely get sweating. I start the Utrogesten tablets next week. I'm still dubious any of it will work as I don't think it did last time but I have to try anything (tried patches too but they weren't good for me)
Anyone else like to share their experiences of Oestrogel and Utrogesten?

It could be that your dose is too low? I started on 3 pumps and ended on 4 (early menopause.)

A consultant told me HRT starts to work after 4/5 weeks with full benefits from 3 months. This was largely my experience, however my sleep was fixed instantly from the first dose.

I'm on one pump which I use in the morning and take the utrogrsten tablet at night.
It's been amazing- I no longer get night sweats, my family say I'm back to being 'me' and I'm sleeping much better.
Hopefully the utrogesten tablets help with your insomnia. The not sleeping felt like it made every other symptom worse

@PickySlackTastic .. thank you..when did you rub in your gel? I do 2 pumps at night but maybe I need 2 in the morning. I don't get the sweating, but do get it when the period arrives. I slept much better last night. Maybe the gel is working now.

idsisatwat.. Thanks for posting. Sounds like it works perfectly for you. It's one of those things I suppose and is so hit and miss. I'm going to stick at it!

I was on the gel and utrogestan for about a year and it never really worked properly even at 4 pumps a day.

I switched to oral hrt and it works perfectly. I would highly recommend it

@FunnysInLaJardin thank you for your input. It sounds an similar experience to what I had before I had to stop due to high BP. I've been getting breast pain since the estrogel so we'll see how it goes.

Thabks for posting . I’ve been meaning to post about this, too (or speak to GP) as I was really hopeful that I’d see great improvements and I’m totally underwhelmed. 9 months in.

Same as you, 2 pumps a day and I do it in the evening 1 pump on each thigh. The only notable change is fewer sweats, although they were infrequent anyway. Sleep is ok, but if I get an early night (not tonight!) I wake at around 5 - so I think I am programmed for a good 6 hours and that’s me.

The most notable thing is the monthly bleed. I was still having periods that were a little painful and lasted 2/3 days. Now it’s about 2 days but day 1 is like nothing I’ve ever had before - so much heavier and the pain seems to seep down into my legs. Hard to describe but for the first time in 30+ years of coping with periods, I’m stuffing a hot water bottle down my trousers even if I’m out in the car/having hot baths in the night when I can’t sleep from it.

i really hoped to see improvements in hair loss, joint pain etc (basically hoped it would turn the clock back 15 years). No boob increase more’s the pity 😆 but my stomach seems enormous. Not helped by not being particularly careful diet wise but I do a lot of exercise - just doesn’t seem to touch it.

I was perhaps unrealistic, or not far enough along the road despite being peri for last 6/7 years - but the two small things that seemed to improve which were breast pain once a month and a strange tingling in my face, went and came back recently.

i hope you have more success - perhaps I need to revisit the application and amount.

I’m also still irritated by everything and everyone 😆 I’d hoped it would chill me out a bit. I do think I wa se or ring miracles - you just hear such amazing reports about it being life changing for so many, that I’m just wondering if it’s worth it. Long term protection for heart an led bones is the only things making me persevere
Husband seems to think I’m slightly less fraught 😆

Grrrr was expecting miracles *
