Menopause period pain - no period

I'm 51 and my periods were all like clockwork until just over 2 years ago, when they started to be a bit heavier, miss a month or two and since March his year, I've not had a normal period. I have spotted occasionally and when I spoke with my GP a couple of months ago all seemed to be 'normal' for my age. For the last 5 years apart from thinning hair on my head, but sprouting chin hair (!!), I am escaping so far, many of the peri/menopause symptoms such as hot flushes etc.

This week I have started spotting again and the past 48 hours a dull period pain ache. Not enough to take pain killers, but it is there, a niggling dull ache without the full period.

Do any other Mumsnet members experience this, or have experienced this? I am not on the pill nor have the coil, or take HRT.

Yep, I do.

I have too. I'm trying to ignore it!

I did and thought it was normal but after a scan I have a large ovarian cyst.

Yes I have this and sometimes it’s painful enough for painkillers and just a teeny tiny amount of blood. Perhaps I should chat with the doctor……

I’m relieved to find this thread. Was thinking I had something terrible going on. Having weird spotting and very frequent bleeding, plus near constant dull aching. Very fed up and not wanting to brave the GP if this is normal.

If your last period was 12 or more months ago you will need to see a GP for further investigation if you have been bleeding no matter how small the amount.

Thanks for caring @LadyVictoriaSponge! It hasn’t been a year since my last period. I had a few months “off” and now my cycles are back with a vengeance. It’s the period pain that’s really surprising, having been spared it since I had children.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 26/11/2022 02:27

Glad to hear it’s not post meno bleeding @Purplepouch some women aren’t aware that they need to get it checked so just wanted to make sure you didn’t fall into that category! I hope your periods settle down soon.

Yep. All over the place for a few years, but I've had spotting and pain every other week for the last few months. I am hoping this is the final hurrah before it all stops!!!

Hello.
I last had a period at least 18 months ago. However, for the last couple of weeks I have had a dull ache in my lower back and tummy, exactly like period pains. No bleeding/spotting at all.
I have read your posts and other people that experience this seem to have bleeding as well, but I don't.
If I Google anything it shows scary things, so I wanted to find out if this is common.
Thanks
