Desogestrel Help

I am perimenopausal and was recently prescribed Provera for a particularly nasty period. The GP examined me and found nothing sinister and so gave me Desogestrel.
I'm on week 4 and I have had continued spotting as expected. Then 3 days ago I began bleeding very painful and extremely heavy. Has anyone else found this settles or is it worth speaking to the GP to get a different pill?
I'm already on iron tablets for low ferritin and I'm just exhausted x

I started this pill 3 weeks ago and have had constant bleeding for 2 weeks so far! I took my last pill 2 nights ago now and I’m still bleeding… not sure if it’s a withdrawal bleed or what?
Did you stick on this pill? What was your bleeding like? Or did you come off it?

I had to come off desogestrel for the same reason ie constantly bleeding. Am now on Norgeston and no problem at all

What was your bleeding like on Desogestrel ? What was it like when you came off it?

SurelyNot22 · 08/03/2023 16:20

It was like a constant period with bloating and cramps. I felt horrible. Once I stopped taking the desogestrel the bleeding stopped within 48hours.

I have been on this for over five years now. Well the brand cerazette, which is desogestrel. When I started I bled constantly for about a month. Not fun of course. Then it settled down and I have not had any issues with it since. The odd break through bleed and the odd period like episode but that is it. There is a settling in phase for any of these things but often if you stick with it it settles down.

Ive been on it for years - never had a bleed. Didn't know it could cause a bleed ?

I've been on it for about 2 years, first single and then double as the progesterone part of HRT. IIRC I had spotting for a little while at first. 4 weeks isn't that long to give a hormonal contraceptive time to settle down, I would give it 3 months if you can. Deso did eventually stop my periods so it could be worth persevering.
