Post period hormonal anxiety?

I'm 47, I've been diagnosed with anxiety since I was 40.

I have noticed over the last year or so that my worst bits of anxiety (like I can barely function) are always after my period. Aren't you supposed to feel good then?

I raised this with my gynaecologist who I was seeing for heavy periods as I wondered whether HRT might help but he said that HRT 'will make your ovaries lazy'.

I'm already on sertraline for anxiety, but nothin seems to trigger these episodes which usually last a week or two.

Anyone else any experience?

Yes and extreme fatigue which is what led me to hrt.

At your age you can trial it. No idea what he means by that awful comment, I smell severe misinformation!

You get a big dip in oestrogen then. I was worse after than before my period. Especially the fatigue. This time last year I was bed ridden for two days after a severe dip.

Some women simply don't notice and some are v sensitive. The biggest issue of peri meno are the ups and downs of hormones

@WarriorN thanks so much for replying. Everything I have read has explained that you should feel worse before the period but for me I get horrific anxiety afterwards.

It's really starting to impact my life.

I know this thread is old but I wondered how you are now. Like you all I read is about anxiety before periods but like you from day 5-ovulation mine is worse and then I am a lot calmer. Have you found anything that helps?
