Transabdominal Versus Transvaginal Scan

Long story - Had NO problems for years, went for smear, loads of problems - sore, itchy, bleeding for weeks (lightly), really uncomfortable, got prescription for vagifem from GP who had diagnosed atrophy. I had had no problems before the smear?? After much persuasion got a referral for an ultrasound scan. I have just noticed this is transabdominal not transvaginal! Am I right in thinking that a transabdominal scan will only pick up any large problems or am I wrong and that it is a second class version of a vaginal scan?

It's not 'second class' it all depends what they are looking for.

A TVS gives a clearer image of the ovaries, uterus and even the bladder to an extent.

Can't advise more unless you give more detail! Post menopause bleeding is investigated under the 2-week rule. Bleeding in peri is usually regarded as normal, if it amounts to irregular periods.

If you are post meno it would be more usual to have a TVS.

Maybe call your GP to query or the place where you are booked in?

Thank you. They just checked the lining of my womb and kidneys.
But I'd had an endometrial ablation in 2010, so I didn't expect the bleeding to be the lining of my womb. The ablation stopped my periods completely I was 44 . The bleeding was coming from my cervix. The G. P. said it was atrophy when she examined me, but I had had no problems before the rough smear test??It has stopped now, so hopefully it won't come back. Will I bleed on vagifem if I start taking it?
