Vagifem - return of hot flushes and feeling angry!

I've had no periods for over 4 years and I have had hardly any hot flushes for a long time. My emotions were very stable and actually better than when having periods as I used to get terrible PMS.

However, I've been prescribed Vagifem due to recurring UTIs. I've been taking the loading dose for 4 days and am already getting hot flushes again, sweating at night and am feeling very angry/irritable with DH! I know the theory is that it's a tiny localised dose of oestrogen which has no effect on the rest of the body but this can't be a coincidence after so long of no menopausal symptoms! And isn't HRT meant to relieve menopausal symptoms, not cause them? Confused!

I will persevere but is it likely these symptoms will wear off as was feeling so much more mellow (and cooler!) before? 😟

Yes I have started on Gina. No contra indications. Started for dryness and uti sensations. After 6 days feeling sore and inflamed. Not major but did not use last night and feeling better. Anyone else?

I have had the same experience. I got to day 10 on Vagifem and stopped. I could not sleep and was having sweats and chills. I was irritable and anxious.

I did have these symptom when I had my mirena coil taken out. I then used estrogel and micronised progesterone for about 6 months to allow me to settle my adrenal system. I stopped all hrt and felt great.

One year later and I am experiencing dryness. No sweats. I am now searching for another way.

For anyone who has tried vagifem and found it irritating, it's possible to get ovestin cream instead, which does the same thing but might be better

Yes you can just ask for your prescription to be changed. I started on Ovestin and then switched to Vagifem.

How often and how much Ovestin to use if replacing vagifem?
