Friend given progesterone only

Hi, my friend is definitely in peri and went to the doctor.
She had a blood test done that showed her oestrogen level was 'ok' but the doc has prescribed progesterone only for her.
I've not heard of this and wondered if anyone else has had this experience? I've told her that her oestrogen levels will fluctuate.

Bump for you op. No advice sadly

No. Never heard of it.

Is this an NHS GP?

It's sometimes offered by 'alternative' drs working privately and especially in the US where there was a bit of a cult at one point for using progesterone only.

Yep. Dr agrees I’m in peri and has put me on Cerazette progesterone only pill in an attempt to regulate my cycle, after 3 months I’m going back with a view to also using patches or gel.
Am now 2 months in and periods are as erratic as ever and I’ve got near constant pmt too, so pretty sure the plan will change.

Mini pill to regulate cycles is fine, by extending the 2nd half of the cycle is known, but I didn't think that was what the OP was referring to. It was more along the lines of 'POP as HRT'.

Maybe she will come back?

Her thread is old now, so maybe she's not reading any more.

Hi, sorry, I saw I had a reply but haven't had chance to name change back and reply.
I don't honestly know why she's been out in just the one thing.
He said it 'would help settle her symptoms'
Instead she said she feels sea sick when she's on them.
I've suggested she goes back and asks them to put her on oestrogen too and actually explain to her why he's chosen that course of meds.
She's suffering from classic peri menopause symptoms so no idea why she's not automatically been offered hrt except for the fact she's only 42 maybe?
