I'm 45 and for the last few months my cycles have gone from being 28 days to 25. I've also noticed my flow is heavier.
My AF started last Thursday and I bled til Sunday. Today I have had cramps all afternoon and the tiniest bit of bleeding when I wipe. I thought my period had finished Is this all part of peri?
I've had an increase in anxiety since Sunday for no apparent reason also.

Tell me your early peri symptoms.

I've just started another thread about this, but hasn't anyone noticed a change in vaginal smell with peri?

yes. change in discharge too.

weirdly, and I expect due to the changes in hormones, I suddenly became irresistible to mosquitos. now I’m on HRT, they leave me well alone once more!

foxlover47 · 25/09/2022 20:28

I've just turned 48 and I was put on stronger anti depressants when telling the gp about the new anxiety and insomnia but I was having all the other symptoms youve all listed , the itching down below was awful, the itching on my skin especially at nite time
Made me
Paranoid and was constantly checking my dogs hadn't picked up fleas whilst knowing they are treated monthly ! Brain fog constantly forgetting things and stuttering when trying to talk , my middle
Looks pregnant full term , the insomnia and the sweats always hit the back of my neck , then I stay awake and start itching
Horrible
I'm
On hrt and hoping it kicks in soon because the tiredness and the rage are also making life , doing all the normal
And usual things so difficult

Crikeyalmighty · 25/09/2022 20:51

I was always suprised how few people mentioned the itching and scratching down below- for me it was the biggest menopausal issue along with night sweating and feeling hot fat too much all the time - I actually used to make myself bleed with scratching - maybe it's kind of an embarrassing one to admit. Also found it quite hard in terms of needing a loo quickly, not being able to hold it as well as before.

foxlover47 · 25/09/2022 21:05

@Crikeyalmighty I have done the same , then it's really painful to wee when you're also needing to wee overnight even more isn't it :/
I also made cuts on my arms from itching so much
Awful

mothertrucking · 25/09/2022 21:18

The itching has driven me insane. I wake up in the night scratching. My legs drive me mad itching, and it's not until this thread I've realised that the itching has been in my groin as well.

@Foofoomystery ha ha love the user name. Yes 100% different, I can explain it but feel a bit like it's off topic so I will hunt for your thread.

nonstoprenovation · 25/09/2022 21:21

Mine are all above.

But the dental stuff gets me, wisdom teeth coming in, bleeding gums, itchy gums and jaw ache.

That's what drives me mad.

The tummy, brain fog etc I can deal with it's just the feeling in my mouth which is 100% hormonal.

Perennis · 25/09/2022 21:25

@mothertrucking you haven't mentioned if you're going on HRT? With that list of symptoms it's obviously advisible. No point suffering needlessly.

CollieWobble22 · 25/09/2022 21:28

I've been wondering this too. My periods used to be heavy / flooding / painful and last for 7 days.

Now, sometimes very late or early. And it's heavy the first two days and then basically disappears completely!

Other newish symptoms I have are

Palpitations
Anxiety
Sadness
Frequent cystitis

I am mid 30s and assumed a GP wouldn't bother seeing me yet.

foxlover47 · 25/09/2022 21:39

@mothertrucking itching can literally drive you to rage can't it ! It's unbearable I found I was taking antihistamines too often to try and counter act it

I've recently had blood tests to check after I spoke to a gp and gave him my list of symptoms. He asked if I wanted to try HRT depending on the results. The results came back normal 😫 so I won't be getting out on it.

My list so far is
Shorter cycle
Rage
Anxiety
Trouble sleeping
Itching
Hair loss
Sore boobs
Increased anxiety
Feeling low in mood
Lethargic

The itching is awful. My legs are definitely the worst for it and mainly during the night. I could rip the skin off some nights

@mothertrucking you do know bloods don't dictate if you can go on HRT or not?

The guidelines are based on symptoms of which you have all of them.

Bloods are a snapshot of literally the day they were taken, a Dutch test is slightly more in-depth but you don't need to "prove" symptoms to get HRT.

Silverbirch2 · 25/09/2022 21:45

This is all sounding familiar. Can I ask about hrt. Do you go to Dr. With a knowledge if what you wNt or lwt them decide? I think I need an appointment.

That's great news. The gp I spoke to was keen for me to take HRT so I'll try to call tomorrow and get an appointment with him. I didn't know this. I had bloods done after my period so I knew it would probably be seen as ok. I need them doing in the run up to it. Last month I honestly couldn't cope with how bad I felt. I also forgot to add cramping and spotting to my list!

Weight gain
Massive amount of itching down below
Weird sensations like a spider was crawling on your skin
Dizziness
Memory issues

I’ve had weird crawling sensations on my back on and off for the last few months. It was freaking me out a bit. Glad to hear it could be a sign of peri menopause.

Howdoyounotgiveup · 25/09/2022 22:07

How do they diagnose peri menopause? How long does it last?

WGSW · 25/09/2022 22:07

Hot flushes and night sweats.
Despite irregular periods from the start, they are now like clockwork for the first time ever.
Feeling like I can go from normal to absolute rage in a fingersnap.
Unbelievably itchy sensitive skin - unbearable itching after showering to the point where I could scratch until I bled. Sanex microbiome sensitive shower gel and Aveeno cream for very dry skin has helped.

Am mid-40s and the hot flushes were what I noticed first. Have been having them for a couple of months now.

CoQ10 · 26/09/2022 09:27

I'm on HRT and also testosterone which was prescribed only after I requested a blood test which showed my levels were through the floor. I would recommend everyone who could be peri menopausal to get tested.

Also does anyone have any advice about boosting confidence as that is the main symptom I am suffering from? My self confidence at work has gone through the floor.

WarriorN · 26/09/2022 10:50

I was hoping testosterone would help with that!

Yes confidence is v hard to deal with. It's been a late symptom

Pootle40 · 26/09/2022 10:54

Broken sleep and periods being either every 19 days or going 3/4 months without one !

mothertrucking · 26/09/2022 13:34

I've had a message from my GP to say my bloods were fine and show no menopause signs. My oestrogen levels are still very high within Norma range 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
mothertrucking · 26/09/2022 13:43

I've just had a good and if my oestrogen is high then I have all or most of the symptoms of a hormonal imbalance caused by oestrogen being too high.

OP posts:
WarriorN · 26/09/2022 14:16

At 45 you can request a trial of hrt without blood tests.

I found a symptom diary which included cyclical patterns helped as I was only 44 when I asked for hrt
