What is the fresh jell? Peri...or just being ill?

I'm defo peri (age 47, periods v light getting lighter, cycle 23 days). I've been ill twice in past 6 weeks and I can't work out if it is coincidence that the individual weeks of hell were in the run up to my period starting, or whether this could be a ramp up of peri.
Basically in the 'bad week', I get chills, towards end of day and at night. But also night sweats. Its as if i have a fever but I dont have a temperature. Terrible continual thirst. Low appetite.Constant hangover type headache, worse on waking, eases during day. Extreme fatigue and low mood.
Anyone else experienced the above but only in the week before your period?

Yes 100%! I asked this question on the advertised thread. I get exact same symptoms, except my periods are horrific. Am 48. Low mood for at least two days, chills, I feel like I’m coming down with the flu. I also usually get a cyst flare up on my lady garden, although this month I didn’t - I had a massive stye on my eye instead!!!

Yeah, think ‘period flu’ is an actual thing. I googled it a few weeks back, mine turned out to be bloody Covid though. 🙄

Ovulation flu is a thing too- it was one of my worst symptoms. I felt age 105 for the week, aching joints, the feeling of staring into space as you do when you have a bad cold, couldn’t focus etc, etc. I found others talking about it in various MN threads, so I was reassured and tracked my symptoms over a number of months. Always the flu feeling about a week after my period ended.

Twattergy · 10/08/2022 21:02

First time I had it I took 2 covid tests because I felt exactly like onset of covid (that I had earlier in year). Mmmm the 'period flu' description in that link doesnt really match the severity of what I'm experiencing. I'm wondering if it can ramp up in peri? I never had PMS before. I am seeing a doc next week. If it happens next month in run up to period I will have my answer and HRT will be on the agenda as I can't like feing like this once every 3 weeks.

My doc suggested mirena coil for the hormonal benefits.
my symptoms have also been much much worse since I had covid back in October. Have you noticed a difference since you had it op?

Twattergy · 11/08/2022 07:24

@puffylovett

No this has only occurred last two cycles.
Has the mirena worked for you?

I won't ever have a coil again (v bad past experience) but I am going to now request HRT because after 5th night in a row of night sweats this is my trigger point!

I had a Mirena fitted for heavy periods but I found that it cured my monthly rages. I suppose it could help with anything cyclical.

Some of these symptoms can be other things.
Chills, fatigue, sweats can be low thyroid issues.

Constant thirst and fatigue can be diabetes.

Maybe ask your dr to do the necessary blood tests? Some like the diabetes one need overnight fasting, or you can buy a DIY kit as a start from Amazon.

Twattergy · 11/08/2022 09:00

@JinglingHellsBells

Exactly. That was my.first though and I will ask docs for these tests. I have done a by post diabetes one and it said I was in healthy zone. Thyroid defo needs to be checked.
It could be something that is nothing to do with periods and the timing just coincidence.

This is what I get the week leading up to ovulation...terrible bloating, feel exhausted, headaches, nauseous then it just stops. Exactly two weeks after symptoms stop, my period starts so it must be the build up to ovulation.

Nope o haven’t bitten the bullet yet - worried about migraines. Plus my best friend ended up with an infected burst cyst after having had an OOD one fitted!
