HRT prescription confusion

Miathecat · 01/08/2022 08:54

Okay so just started my first HRT dose and wanted to check. Doc says she’s given me 3 month supply (makes sense for the progesterone tablet as 3 boxes of 30 (one a day) but confused by the oestrogen gel. Did my two pumps this morning, one on each thigh it was more gel than I expected but not sure what I expected! I think by my reckoning the pump should last one month not three? Or have I used too much? Photos attached

I use 2 pumps a day and get 2 bottles each month - not sure if that helps!

She's clearly made a mistake.

The bottle has 64 measures (this is on the box.)
2 measures (pumps) per day.
32 days in each bottle.

That’s what I thought so should have been given 3 bottles, thanx

@Afterfire That seems weird as well! As Oestrogel is a shortage medicine now the law has been changed so that women can't have more than 3 bottles on one prescription. That is supposed to last 3 months (unless someone is using a high dose.) If you get a new prescription each month, doesn't that mean you are getting more than some women?

No idea. I have complex medical issues - lupus, Addisons, sjorgens, pituitary issues etc etc. I take 22 medications a day and collect them all in a huge bag. I get 2 bottles of oestrogel per month. That’s all I know! (I’m on oestrogel 2 pumps, utrogestan 100mg daily and mini pill).

@Afterfire I'm sorry you have so many medical issues. If your GP knows you only use 1 pump a month, that's what she ought to prescribe as some women are unable to get any at all and have had to swap to other types of hrt. I don't mean this is your fault, at all, but your GP ought to know.

Afterfire · 01/08/2022 10:11

2 pumps a day.

I understand what you’re saying. To be honest my GP is a law unto themselves. I have endless issues with prescriptions.

Afterfire · 01/08/2022 10:16

(Just re read and see that you mean one bottle a month).

Miathecat · 01/08/2022 10:50

Last question - the progesterone tablet which is one daily before bedtime (utrogesten) says in the leaflet to take estrogen at the same time but I thought I’d read somewhere it was better to do estrogen in morning and progesterone at night?

I take my utrogestan at night & oestrogel in the morning. The utrogestan can make you drowsy
