Perimenopause insane cycles

I just turned 50 and my cycles are become insane over the past year and half. In particular, they have become so incredibly heavy with (tmi) huge clots and flooding. Lately I start light, have one regular day and then a massive day where I almost can't leave the house, then it trails on for days on end. I think it's done and than it starts again, Usually by day 10 it is complete. This cycle I thought was done early - 4 days with one really heavy day and then nothing. I had intercourse with my husband and then it starts again bright red on day 5. I am so concerned that there may be more going on then just perimenopause. Does this sound familiar to anyone? A bit terrified.

Yes, I experienced the same. In my case, towards the end of peri, I had very unpredictable cycles with intermittent massive bleeds. One episode dragged on for 35 days. Saw GP. Had ultrasound. Found no abnormalities. Fluctuating hormones causing it. Luckily, periods stopped soon after.
Always worth checking out with Dr if worried. Meds can be prescribed to control bleeding to some extent.
Sympathies to you.

I've been listening to the R4 podcast '28ish days later' about the menstrual cycle and the menopause. It is so interesting and I've learnt a lot about my cycle and peri menopause journey.

Ir is the blood after intercourse that worries me. I had only been very lightly spotting at the tail end of period (I thought) and this caused bright red blood which is still lightly continuing. I am not sure if it is part of my period or whether something entirely different....

I’d get a smear and ask for scan to check. I have e similar and mine is a polyp and adenomyosis.

I’m calling in today to ask for a scan. This not knowing what is going on is very distressing….
