Timing taking utrogestan

I'm perimenopausal and I've been taking HRT since the end of 2021. I still get regular periods. I've been taking the utrogestan as 2 tablets a day for the first 12 days of the calendar month, but my cycle is around 25 days so that means the utrogestan doesn't sync up with whatever progesterone my body is still producing.

I'm thinking I should switch to taking it from day 13 of my cycle, and stop after 12 days, or when I start bleeding. Is there any reason not to do this? (I would ask my GP, but she didn't know about taking utrogestan sequentially, so I suspect I'll get better advice here.)

I have read on other threads that the utrogestan will override the natural cycle, but that doesn't seem to have happened. I took utrogestan on the 1-12th of this month, and my period started yesterday.

If your periods are regular (they class that as always within 5 days either way in a month) then yes, try taking Utrogestan to coincide with your own cycle.

For women in peri who have irregular cycles (maybe once every 3 months, or so) then it can rest the cycles into a more regular monthly pattern.

What you cant do (obviously!) is try to predict what your cycle length will be each month as at some point it WILL change.

take your average cycle - whether that is 28/30/33 days - and find the midpoint. That's the day to start Utrogestan.

Don't stop if your period starts early- keep going for the 12 days. This is because you will be still adding additional estrogen all the days you are bleeding.

That makes sense, thank you.
