Periods v close together -is this it??

WhamBamMam85 · 21/07/2022 00:12

43, stopped the pill a year ago. Haven’t really tracked my periods since then so not sure how regular they usually are.

Recently I’ve noticed I get several days of light spotting before my actual period kicks in. Then today I noticed the tissue was light pink when I wiped - but my last period was only 12 days ago. Is this the first sign?? I’ve got no other symptoms.

Could that be an ovulatory bleed?

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 21/07/2022 00:20

Pretty normal after 12 to 14 days from your period starting.

mrsfollowill · 21/07/2022 00:26

Oh story of my life at the moment! Light bleeding wk 1, heavy (and I mean heavy) bleeding for 10 days-use 60 odd orange tampax and 40 ish pads in these 10 days. Light bleeding 3 days then 1 week of nothing. Then repeat. I'm older than you- 51 and this crap started around 2 yrs ago - have been trying to ride it out hoping it will just end without intervention - I'd like to go to the doctors but the whole process of trying to get an appointment irritates me so much I just ignore it for now and hope for the best.
Sorry -more of a rant and no help to you- and yes it sounds like the start of peri.
Do you have any unusual anxiety/disturbed sleep?

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 21/07/2022 00:31

If it is irregular bleeding (and mine started a year ago aged 44/45) then the coil has worked very well for me (but took a few months to settle down).

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 21/07/2022 00:33

@mrsfollowill that sounds exhausting. Have you checked you're not anaemic?

mrsfollowill · 21/07/2022 00:42

@Hillsmakeyoustrong - I think maybe I am- I crave red meat at certain times and have the odd 'funny turn' - lost confidence in my ability to drive (after being a competent driver since I passed my test at 17) I feel faint now and then and I'm worried I'll crash so I rarely drive. It looks bad written down! Friends have gone on HRT and are much improved after being similar. I've google private Menopause clinics- sigh - I need a kick up the bum to do something I know!

You should get checked out, I had this bleeding pattern and it was a large fibroid in my womb. I had to get it removed.

WhamBamMam85 · 21/07/2022 06:57

Oh dear, some of you are really suffering!

i have no disturbed sleep or any other issues yet other than this. What’s really annoyed me is that I’m going abroad in a few days and was really pleased I had a period recently as I thought it would mean I won’t get one on holiday - obviously not!!! And on that note, does anyone know of anywhere on the high street that sells period swimwear? Too late to order online and I’m not a tampon- user.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 21/07/2022 08:10

@mrsfollowill I went for a private well woman scan at a baby bond clinic ( oh the irony) it was quick and reasonably priced. If all is well then it's just a trip to the gp for the hrt. You can't let that go on.

@WhamBamMam85 is there such a thing as period swimwear?! I'd also get checked out if I was you given how young you are and the lack of other symptoms.

WhamBamMam85 · 21/07/2022 08:19

@Hillsmakeyoustrong yes, Modibodi do period swimwear - my teen has some.

oh dear, is this another potential health issue for me to worry about?? I’ve got pretty bad health anxiety…☹️

No it doesn't sound like it. Periods do change and it sounds like ovulation spotting.

WhamBamMam85 · 21/07/2022 08:55

Oh yes, sorry, I missed the earlier post suggesting ovulation spotting. I do remember getting that when I was trying to get pregnant and was really on it with tracking my periods - hopefully that’s it 🙏 But I will get checked out if my periods continue to be weird.

OP posts:
Hillsmakeyoustrong · 21/07/2022 18:34

@WhamBamMam85 was it just a spot of pink discharge for a day or has it carried on? If it was just a show then it can be ovulatory.

Not at all. It's highly likely to be nothing but when periods change and start affecting your life day to day, I'd get it checked out.

Jedstre · 21/07/2022 23:02

@WhamBamMam85 looking back, I was about your age when my cycle started to change. No other symptoms at that point. Sounds entirely normal for peri menopause.

WhamBamMam85 · 21/07/2022 23:24

@Hillsmakeyoustrong yesterday it was just pink when I wiped. Today, a small bit of brownish mucus. Hoping it’ll go away…

@Jedstre thank you.

Mine got closer together and more regular as I went into peri.
Keep in mind the symptoms of low iron if you’re going to be bleeding more.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 22/07/2022 08:57

That sounds ovulatory to me but I am not medically trained. Ive had an awful lot of gynae issues and spent years deciphering my body!!

WhamBamMam85 · 22/07/2022 13:39

Thank you, all.
Just had a few red drops in the loo. It’s obviously gearing up to go into full flow as soon as I clap eyes on the hotel pool. FFS.

Hello

my period was two weeks early (!) this month, started a few days after I had Covid.
it happened after previous Covid in February and after both vaccinations,- could that be a cause for you?

WhamBamMam85 · 22/07/2022 13:57

Oh that’s interesting… I had Covid for the second time earlier this year and my 2nd vaccine was just before Christmas…

OP posts:
Isaidnoalready · 22/07/2022 14:03

Mines not settled since covid and the vaccines it was fairly regular until then but I am 47 so prime age for peri/menopause I tried to speak to my Dr but I have an overactive thyroid so symptoms could be either/or just had another thyroid function test to see if I'm stable or not if I am I'm going to talk menopause with them!

No im not getting a coil fitted

WhamBamMam85 · 22/07/2022 23:40

God no, I’m with you on the coil - no way do I want one of those!!!
