HRT gel when flying

Hi, can anyone advise please?

On oestrogel and will need to take it with me when I fly soon.

I assume as long as I take it in the original box with my name on (pharmacy sticker), that that will be acceptable? It's 80g pump bottle.

Has anyone done this already? Thanks

It will need to go in the clear plastic bag if you're taking in hand luggage.

I took the label off my box and stuck it to the bottle. It then went in my liquids bag. Had absolutely no issues at either airport - UK and Spain.

I did it a couple of weeks ago. I had prescription and bottle was in labelled original box. No problem. They seemed fine and it did NOT need to be in the clear plastic bag as it is medicine.

Thanks for the advice all. As long as it isn't confiscated - need my HRT!

You just have to make sure you have your prescription if you're not putting it in the bag

Cismyfatarse · 08/07/2022 16:07

Yes. And they check the name on that, on the packaging and on your passport all against each other.

I brought mine through recently and was fine. I had the box and I had asked the pharmacy to put the label on the actual bottle. The security guy when I was flying out did pick it up and look at it but when I said it's HRT gel he through it on looking embarrassed. Nothing said in Spain on the way back at all.

I don't have a copy of my prescription, as I just reorder online with my GP specialist, and it comes in the post.
This is for testosterone gel; I'll be flying to Spain, with hand luggage only.
Is the pharmacy label on the box not sufficient?

You don't need it if you're going to put it in your clear plastic bag. But if you don't want it counted as part of your allowance you need the prescription.

It’s fine. I didn’t put it in a plastic bag “ medication” I think it’s 240g Isn’t it . They will take it and look at it ( like they’ve never seen it before 😂) as the base is hollow

LaJoconde · 09/07/2022 19:24

Just put the dispensing sticker on the bottle and have it in your handbag.
they'll let it pass through as

  1. it’s below 100g anyway, and
  2. it’s prescribed medicine.

i never tried to jam it into the clear toiletries bag as that’s full of travel sizes of hypoallergenic sunblock and shower gel anyway, and as I have other prescribed creams/ medicines (for excema) as well, I carry the medicines onboard in my handbag for fear they’ll be lost.

sometimes I carry my script- it depends how my GP sent it to the pharmacist. I take a photo of it just in case I lose my HRT in the resort / hotel and need to get some in Spain.

The contents are 80mls so well below the 100mls limit.
You can take it without declaring.
