Stupid question about HRT and periods

FlowRider · 04/07/2022 17:48

I have regular normal periods. Bit heavier now I'm perimenopausal but that's about it.

I've been prescribed HRT for the benefits as I'm 50 and have a very enlightened doctor so that's good but one thing I'm not sure about is what will happen to my periods when I take the HRT? Do they stop? Change at all? Will it make them lighter?

Thanks for any advice!

I'd quite like to know this too over time! My HRT is leading to a regular monthly period. 7 days long (boo). 5 days of light spotting/ bleeding then 2 heavy days (no pain though) and then boom! Gone. Until the next time. I am wondering if they will tail off as I get older....

I think it depends what hrt you're on. If oestrogen and progesterone (which you probably are) then you will have regular periods with them - mine restarted having been hit and miss for awhile

The question is how long will that stage last! I can't carry on bleeding each month when I'd almost stopped before...Confused

I've stopped hrt for this reason. No periods for 2 years then after 6 months of hrt irregular periods. I'd rather put up with the flushes

Yes, same here.
2.5 years of no periods, then within 4 months of starting patches, boom, periods or bleeding! It wouldn't settle on utrogestan, so had to have a coil fitted in the end.

In hindsight, I wish I'd never started HRT. Bleeding has been a big problem and how I've got spotting on the damm coil!

Maybe, just maybe, the hormones would have settled without intervention!

I'm not worried about having a monthly period - probably because I'm not in menopause yet and they're still as regular as they ever were

I just was curious as to what happens to those of us with normal ish periods when we start taking HRT
