Can HRT patches cause panic attacks??

I started on HRT patches about 6-8 weeks ago. Symptoms were general brain fog, moodiness etc.

I have started having the most awful panic attacks in the last couple of weeks. Dry mouth, feeling like I can’t swallow or breathe. I’m now hyper aware of breathing and swallowing and occasionally really panic and feel like I can’t breathe.

can HRT cause this? Anyone? Thanks

It could be the menopause symptoms & you might need the dose increasing.

It's really hard to say as symptoms of menopause are very hard to quantify as are the symptoms caused by hormones
Sometimes women have strange reactions as the body adjusts to the hormone levels rising and it is usually advised to continue, if you can, and see if the symptoms settle. If they don't you may need to try a different HRT. It is generally recommended to wait 3 months before changing or increasing dose to allow the body to adjust

All medicines come with a leaflet don’t they? On it there should be a section covering side effects and contra-indications.

Can you find those and check? If not, a google of the medication name should assist you in finding the leaflet text online.

That really sounds awful. If you're a sensitive type, it may be the dosage is overwhelming your system, or it may be the style and mix of hormones in that patch is not for you. I think I would much rather brain fog and moodiness to panic attacks...
