So bloated!

I'm late 40s and haven't had a period for 2 months now but I've been getting all the signs of an impending period for the whole 2 months. The worst symptom is a hugely bloated stomach - is there anything that helps? I've tried water retention tablets but they have little effect. Does HRT specifically work on bloating? I'm going to get an appointment to discuss but if anyone has any other tips in the meantime I'm all ears (and stomach).

No advice but me too! Happened twice this year already. 😩

suckingonchillidogs · 18/06/2022 09:40

Weirdly got my period yesterday and can feel myself deflating now thankfully. I felt like I was in a different body for 2 months! Hope you feel better soon as well @whirlyswirly

Same
I’m a few weeks late and I know it’s going to blow soon
but it’s like someone inflated a balloon

cantheydothisreally · 12/07/2022 18:11

I am 49 and experiencing this at the moment, I fell like a balloon. Sad

Pleased your symptoms have passed op 😊

suckingonchillidogs · 12/07/2022 18:22

Well, they had passed but not for very long! I seem to get about 5 days of feeling really well and the rest of the time I feel like I'm waiting for a period to arrive/I've swallowed a bowling ball. I'm a bit reluctant to go on HRT as I always used to get menstrual migraines which (fingers crossed) seem to have finally subsided and my skin is really clear for once.

Welcome to the bloat club though @Thisisworsethananticpated and @cantheydothisreally - so much more fun in the hot weather!

There are some tips here that might help balance-menopause.com/uploads/2021/09/Bloating-and-bowel-problems-in-the-menopause.pdf

suckingonchilliidogs

I agree the hot weather adds to the delight of this and the flushes 🤣

Thanks for link, i have seen this before and was so relieved to see it in writing as the GP was not that helpful 😡

My symptoms got better and then have come back with a vengeance the last few weeks 😭

over50andfab · 12/07/2022 18:27

Thanks so much for this - I've been Googling bloat and menopause for ages but this is the most helpful article I've seen.

stillherenow · 12/07/2022 18:46

I've got this and I thought it was the heat . Bloody hell menopause is the gift that just keeps on giving

suckingonchillidogs · 12/07/2022 19:09

Yup. We're meant to be going back to the office for at least 3 days a week but I've already worn the one skirt that fits round my gut comfortably yesterday so they ain't seeing me again this side of the weekend!

OP posts:
stillherenow · 12/07/2022 20:11

I've been sitting here working in my pants all day (wfh obvs!!) nothing is comfy!

Messangel · 12/07/2022 22:15

I'm at this point, regular periods but boobs and belly bloated like Buddha since my last period. No deflation at all. I've had to buy new bras and tops.

If anything I'm eating less but feel full all the time. As if I've been stuffing my face.

Is this (peri)Menopausual weight gain??? 🙁

Thisisworsethananticpated · 13/07/2022 05:17

Hello
I don’t think this heats helping

no period still
bloated still
dizzy (is anyone else getting this dizziness )
and very fatigued

this is not fun

stillherenow · 13/07/2022 08:13

I'm slightly relieved as my mind can't help going to dark thoughts when I have weird symptoms like this - should have thought of course it's the f*ing menopause

suckingonchillidogs · 13/07/2022 09:24

Oh me too @stillherenow - I've been Googling all sorts of illnesses but I know it's menopause because when a period does eventually rock up the bloat goes and I lose 3 / 4lbs literally overnight. That lasts for about 5 days and then it starts all over again!

OP posts:
stillherenow · 13/07/2022 16:32

I don't really get periods very often anymore . The bloating has eased now, drinking a lot of water seems to help. It was extremely uncomfortable for a while though so I'm sure it will be back !

cantheydothisreally · 13/07/2022 16:54

It is pretty miserable 😩

I have watched my diet etc but sometimes want a bit of junk, I cannot abstain from everything 🤣

I have had tests for cancer so that has been ruled out

Bloody hormones 😞
