Change Hrt

My Dr told me to come off evoril conti patches three weeks as I was constantly bleeding after being on them for 5 months and referred me for a scan. The bleeding stopped as soon as I stopped the patches. I'm a complete mess, crying and having mood swings and the hot flushes again. I need Hrt again and will ring him tomorrow, but I really don't like the idea of the mirena coil which he suggested as a replacement. Has anyone any advice?

You could try a separate oestrogen patch with progesterone instead? Or gel or spray? These may work better for you? The patches come in doses from 25-100 and the gel / spray, you titrate to alleviate symptoms.

Forgot to say, some Hrt is out of stock or in short supply. Just to pre warn you.

I felt the same about the mirena and very strongly.

I had to change to one to continue with HRT and I am eating my words. Should have had one a decade ago.

I went straight for gel and utrogestan when I started HRT. As I was over 50 and more than I year since my last period I started on a continuous regime. Within a few weeks I’d started bleeding randomly which was really annoying. On my GPs advice I switched to only taking the utrogestan 12 days a month so I’d get a predictable bleed. Still frustrating but I can plan around bleeding for 3 days rather than constantly. Similar to you, I was adamant I’d not have a mirena.

I was on oestrogen and utrogestan for 3 years but the bleeding was getting too much unfortunately m.

I too was adamant I didn't want a mirena. I had one fitted last week and I'm touching lots of wood that it does the job and allows me to take just oestrogen without bleeding !

Good luck
