Heavy Bleeding After Mirena Removal

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 03/06/2022 09:47

I had some bleeding & the gynaecologist removed a couple of polyps. He also inserted the Mirena as I am on gel & tablets but find it difficult taking the tablets as they have to be one hour before food or two hours after. This was a couple of weeks ago. I found I was in quite a bit of pain & a doctor at my surgery removed the coil on Monday. Really struggling with heavy blood flow now & have had to cancel a couple of things to be able to cope with frequent pad changes. I wondered if this is fairly normal & will settle down or if I should call 111 ( surgeries are closed until Monday). Anyone had experience of this? Just to say I believe I’ve been going through the menopause for about 4 years.

@SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows I had the coil in for 1 year. I hated it as bled constantly. I am 40.

got it removed and all was fine for first 2 days. I then had a heavy bleed fir 2 days. Changing pads every hour and massive clots size of golf balls. Was bleeding through everything. Was frightening and I wasn’t prepared as was told this wouldn’t happen.

called gp and dud a Google search and this can be common. I rode it out and bleeding decreased to a normal flow and then stopped a few days later.

I had my coil removed in october, but also had a hysteroscopy at the same time and had a gel put on my eroded cervix. I bleed very heavily for about 3 weeks after. I bled through pads and bled through to my clothes for about 10 days then it eased off. I'm 49 and peri-menopausal.
How heavy is your bleeding OP?

smartiecake it varies - I was concerned this morning as I was trying to get dry after my shower & blood was pouring down my legs. I got though quite a few pads but later in the day it was a lot lighter. Pain has eased a lot too as the day’s gone on.

I think you will have to see how you get on over the next couple of days but hopefully it will get lighter now

this happened to me after I had my mirena removed, it completely floored me and I wasn't prepared for it at all....huge clots and horrific flow. I did a bit of research at the time and discovered it can be completely normal for some women, something to do with the rapid fluctuation in hormone levels. It lasted about two days I seem to recall.
