Getting fed up with hrt

riley64 · 30/05/2022 21:01

Started on hrt early December last year taking 2 pumps of estragel and 1 progesterone tablet daily. Fine for first 3 months worked great then started with bleeds spoke to nurse and she said to up the gel to 2 in morning and 1 in evening I am still bleeding every 2 weeks now with intermittent spotting. I have also got tightness in calves of legs and back pain and cannot get an appointment for another 3 weeks. Was wanting to know if anyone else had been through this or should I just stop until I can speak to someone.

Your progesterone probably needs adjusting.
Additional Oestrogen won’t solve bleeding, but trialing a different progesterone, could fix the bleeding for you.

Definitely try and get an appointment to discuss the bleeding.

It is normal within the first six months, but after that, it will need investigating.

The other option is to switch to a cyclical regime, so that you get a more predictable bleed each month.

Best of luck.

If you had periods in the past year before starting hrt and you are on a continual regime then the 2 bleeds can be your own cycle plus the artificial cycle

Have you thought about a Mirena coil ? It should stop you bleeding.

JinglingHellsBells · 01/06/2022 08:34

Your nurse's advice was wrong! All back to front!

You're bleeding because the amount of progesterone is too low for 3 pumps of gel.

Have you thought about dropping down to 2 pumps?

And, as a PP says, if you are not 12 months post-meno, you should be on a cyclical regime, of progesterone 12 days per month ( 200mgs each of those days.)

Jingling is correct 👍👍👍
Poor nurse advice there!

TBH unless she is a nurse with specialist training in HRT she doesn't know what she's talking about- she's told you to do the exact opposite of what's needed. See a dr or someone else.
