Anything to take for menopause when you are unable to take hormones .

Try Menopace, plus Boots Red Clover & Isoflavones. I don't take HRT out of choice and these two supplements helped a lot.

Has your GP or consultant advised against HRT? Just asking as a lot of women feel they can't use HRT when they could.

If you have had breast cancer or a recent heart attack or stroke, the dr looking after you for those should refer you to a menopause specialist so you can be prescribed alternative treatments. There are drug options for women who need them.

Hello, I’m 47 and have been having Menopausal symptoms for nearly 2 years. I just realised what they were about 2 months ago when the hot flushes and off-the-charts sweating started. I got prescribed oestrogen patches last week and the problem is I’m sweating them off so far. Am following all the steps in putting them on correctly . Any advice much appreciated. Also, all of this is SO expensive!

iamyourequal · 11/05/2023 21:42

Hi @Meadie47 I started on patches but after a few months I started to sweat more and they just fell off, usually after I’d broken out in red welts. It may have been another medication I started that caused the sweaty problem with them, but if they aren’t sticking you’re not absorbing the hormones and so for me the problem just got worse. I switched to oestrogen gel and it’s far, far better. Are you not UK that you have to pay?

Meadie47 · 15/05/2023 16:45

Hi @iamyourequal, thanks for the reply, Got gel instead from my GP so fingers crossed! Yes I'm in Ireland, nothing is covered unless you're under 8 years old or unemployed.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 16/05/2023 04:56

@Meadie47 where do you put them if they are sweating off? Mine go on my bottom, as far as I know I don't sweat there.

I swim, shower and bath and they all stay on. What brand do you have?

I sympathise with the cost. We lived in Ireland before prescriptions were free for under 8s and I had a child who had endless chest infections for a while and the cost wiped me out!

Meadie47 · 16/05/2023 07:43

@Moredarkchocolateplease yeah that’s where I put the patches as well but I get biblical hot flushes where I sweat pretty much everywhere. I run hot on a normal basis so maybe that’s why they’re so severe. Such fun when I’m in the office 🙄. Hopefully the gel will start to kick in soon. Yeah paying for GPs is so expensive, there’s €60 for normal appointments and I have to pay €200 on Friday to get the progesterone coil fitted. Can claim some back on tax but not til next year.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 16/05/2023 07:54

Gah that's horrendous isn't it. Yes I remember being so shocked when we moved over. I had two coils fitted and removed for nothing in the year before we moved over and was astonished at the cost. Plus we could barely claim anything back at all.

I hope you get some respite soon from the hot flushes. My night sweats stopped with the oestrogen patches so 🤞 for you.

I think that's changed now so you can claim as you go. Have a look at the Revenue website. It's not much of course but better than nothing. I'm broke from a cascade of menopause-caused problems.

Meadie47 · 16/05/2023 10:23

wow thanks @Pollyputhekettleon I was definitely not aware of that, will be claiming expenses from revenue today then!!👌
