Apprehensive of Mirena fitting

I'm getting the Mirena coil fitted next Tuesday.
Its mainly to ( hopefully) stop hormonal bleeding.
Utrogestan doesn't work for me, so specialist has suggested the Mirena.

I'm scared it will make me irritable or crampy etc.

Obviously I will find out how soon it can be removed, if it doesn't work out, but still feeling rather nervous about it.

This menopause is tough enough, without any additional problems!

Hi Runaround50, I hope you are feeling better?

I've had 3-4 mirena's. For the first one I felt how you described initially. It lasted 3 weeks (you might think that sounds like a lifetime if you are still feeling rough) but I woke up one day and it had all gone. I then had many years of no periods, no pain, no weight gain. It was totally worth the initial settling in period. At the 5 year mark when I had to get it renewed I didn't go through that again. No issues at all.

I've recently started on Oestrogel along side it for peri symptoms and it's been mostly really positive so far.
I hope it gives you the relief you are after!

I LOVE the mirena. I don't have periods whilst it's inserted. Also haven't noticed any other side effects (hormonal or otherwise). I've had it in and out a few times due to pregnancies and I always dread the fitting as it's pretty uncomfortable for me, but the discomfort of the fittings are FAR outweighed by the benefits in my opinion.

Thanks again 😀
Well I think the bloating is easing. Got a few cramps lingering, bleeding hasn't started yet ( or spotting) I'm wondering when that's going to happen?

As I mentioned, I had one fitted for the progesterone element of my HRT. I was bleeding lots on the patch with utrogestan.

That said, I'm not sure my patch is working properly now and may need to rethink my delivery and dose of Oestrogen. 🤷‍♀️
