Mirena coil. Am I imagining this? I feel awake, calm and better.

I had it fitted 2 hours ago! That's all. It wasn't that bad, over in mins etc.

I now feel very calm, I feel more awake than I have done in weeks/months. Am I imagining this? Could it possibly be linked? I didn't think progesterone did this?

I am interested because it's the lead up to HRT and frankly if this is what happens I want it now lol.

Possibly. I felt much the same after my first Depo Provera shot. Took a few hours to feel a change, inside 24 hours I was a completely different person.

Yep, I felt loads better almost immediately after my very out-of-date one was changed. Really helpful for brain fog. I find mine very calming.

Now on full hrt & feeling much better overall.

It is 100% linked. My friend was overdue for her coil replacement and was having severe peri menopausal symptoms.
Having hers replaced got rid of most of them.
They actually use the coil sometimes in peri treatment.
Glad it's helping so much OP

Amazing 😁. I can't tell you how happy I am. Its been a very rough few months/years of feeling dreadful and putting it down to lockdown affects, stress and everything else. I really do hope you're right 😁😁

Oh I had this too! Felt really mellow & calm Smilehadn't felt that way in years!

FancyFelix · 23/05/2022 11:39

I've found it really helpful for peri menopausal symptoms, although not that quickly admittedly. I don't see why it wouldn't be true though, it's a decent shot of hormone isn't it

Exactly what I needed to read!
I'm having one fitted in a week ( to hopefully control bleeding caused by HRT )

God I hope it works!

My Gp has suggested the Mirena as way to manage my out of this world periods, which are becoming worse. I have had a blood test and vaginal scan and all seems fine apart from being massively anaemic due to losing so much blood each month. What kind of peri-meaupsal symptoms did the Mirena help you all with?

I got mine not for peri menopause but for very heavy periods/flooding. It changed my life as my periods were embarrassing and debilitating. I was also anaemic. You just have to be patient in the first few months as it's quite possible you'll have brownish discharge - no a period - for weeks on end, alongside greasy skin and hair. If you can ride it out, in my experience it is worth it. Everything settle down for me after 4-5 months and I've not had a hint of a period since. I had the first one removed after five years and immediately replaced back in January and that changeover led to no issues at all. In terms of meno, you might still need estrogen gel or patches alongside Mirena. I'm 46 and fine without so far.

Gherkingreen · 22/06/2022 21:17

I've had two Mirena coils for contraception, between and after pregnancy for several years, so have really tested it.
I didn't get on with it. Periods virtually stopped which was great, but my skin suffered, my mood was erratic.
As soon as I had my last one removed (about 3 years ago) all those symptoms settled down.
Now in peri menopause...do I try it again or consider it just not right for me?

I had a Mirena for anaemia caused by heavy, frequent periods.
For me it’s mostly got rid of my terrible PMT. It’s amazing.
