Anyone able to comment on my before-and-after HRT test results?

Recently I had to tweak my HRT, and when it had settled my GP agreed to add testosterone to the mix.

I had an immediate return in libido, better energy, and have become a bit more able to stand up for myself since the testosterone started. Win!

I had bloods before and after 6 weeks at the request of the GP and here are the results - I have no idea what they mean!

Serum testosterone. 0.6 --> 3.2 mol/L
Serum sex hormone binding glob 65.1 --> 62.3
Free androgen index 0.9 --> 5.1

I don't care if these results mean the return of libido etc is all in my mind - it works for me! But I'd be interested if anyone can decode them for me.

2 of them are higher (both male hormone related) & the other is pretty much the same. I think you need to state what dose of what HRT you're on, too.

Have you run them though google OP? Is there not a guide there for female levels?

Pennox · 19/05/2022 17:26

Is it not just saying that your testosterone levels have gone up? as expected as you're taking testostrone.

I can't find reference levels for androgen index for women, maybe need units on that one, but the serum testosterone looks a lot higher than usual upper limit (Google says) for natural female levels. GP may want to adjust your meds down on that basis.

theres a testosterone level and not all of that is active - If I recall correctly the oomph is in the free androgen index - i think this is the testosterone that’s active

I think Google is saying OP is now ( barely) in qualifying range for PCOS androgen levels, threshold would be 5. But GP can decode & decide if it matters.

GP wanted the before and after bloods (before I started testestosterone and after) but hasn't shown much interest in them since they've come back. It's certainly changed things a lot but I was hoping someone could shine a light on what the different bits mean. No worries, I'll talk to the GP and my original advisor.
