Misery of acid reflux perimenopause

I'm not sure if anyone has any suggestions I just need to know I'm not the only one suffering! I'm having full blood count done and I have a gp appointment next week. I tried HRT and managed 3 days as I felt so awful on it.

I have near constant acid reflux, burping and wind and bloating after eatingI've read it can be linked to perimenopause as I have many other symptoms and my cycle is getting shorter and lighter. It's making my life a misery. I think it might be worse from ovulation onwards?..I've tried all the pharmacy stuff and it temporarily helps, I eat ginger, have a nausea band etc.

Does anyone else relate to this? I had no idea menopausal symptoms could be so strong ( don't get me started on the tinnitus, brain fog, fuzzy dizziness and the rest)!

I don't think your supposed to be on them long term but I think some people are on them long term.

I've been on lansoprazole since Jan 2020 and AFAIK I can be on it indefinitely. A lot of menopausal symptoms settle down once you're through the menopause, so I will discuss with my doctor in future whether I should stay on it. I read recently about an increased incidence of stomach cancer in people on PPIs long term, so this is something I'd like to discuss.

I'm on 20mg daily and doc is happy for it to be long term. I up to 40mg if it flares up. Have been on it 5 years, 3 days off and I really feel the reflux getting worse.

I don't think it is related to menopause.

You mentioned white poo earlier. This may have not been Gaviscon. It's a known symptom of gallbladder attacks. I had it. 12 big stones in my gallbladder found when it was removed, though I didn't really have all that much pain. It's because bile makes poo brown but stones block the bile. Often accompanied by very bright orange urine. Comes and goes, not a permanent symptom. I'd advise you to get an ultrasound to check for gallstones. Easy operation and for me no side effects. Best to get it out before it causes something serious like pancreatitis.

That's Omeprazole by the way. I actually don't think that my gallbladder and my reflux issues are connected but both do need treatment.

I used to get reflux/indigestion but found the following has helped:
eating smaller meals & more slowly
avoiding fatty foods (like bacon, sausage, pastry, mackerel)
taking Andrew’s health salts
losing some weight
HRT
