Periods with a Mirena

Last year had low ferritin due to heavy periods. A couple of friends advised a Mirena as they’d never had a period since it was put in, best thing since sliced bread.
So I had one put in, wires now up inside, and I spotted for 7 months solid, with an occasional light period thrown in. GP gave me a course of progesterone to flush me out, didn’t work.
Recently I realised that I’d stopped spotting, but now I’m having a full on period.
Part of me thinks I should have it out as it’s not doing what it’s supposed to.
Anyone else have this happen , any advice ?

thats shame OP, sorry you are having problems with the Mirena. I am on my 3rd and final mirena, this one will take me through the menopause. I had the Mirena fitted to control my very heavy periods. It worked for me, very rarely do I have a period and if I do it exceptionally light. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Mirena is right for you. See what else your GP suggests. Good luck.

Do go back to your GP, OP. Your GP will look at all the factors that could be contributing to your bleeding. If they can’t help, then referral to Gynaecology may be beneficial.

I’ve been referred to have it taken out. I’ll have a chat with the gynae doctor to see what they think.

Yep. I bled pretty much constantly on it for 2 years. I don't know why I persisted for so long. Everyone said 'give it time', ' let it settle'. It never did. I hated it.
