Vertigo? Really? Another Meno Symptom?

I have developed vertigo symptoms overnight, woke on Wednesday morning, went to the loo, felt a bit lightheaded and lay back down and the room started spinning. Felt slightly giddy for an hour or two afterwards but fine for the rest of the day.

Woke up on Thursday morning, not as bad as the day before but dizzy just the same, no room spinning though. It has lasted all day, particularly if I bend down and stand straight again. Got home in the evening lay on the couch and the room started spinning again and I felt nauseous.

A quick search on a Meno FB page and apparently its another symptom?

Anyone else had this?

You can also try balance.life guide.org balance retraining.

I developed positional vertigo in my mid 40s. Did not associate it with meno but since being on HRT it has become much less frequent and much less severe.

@bellac11 My GP said similar, the problem with that is we are likely to dismiss serious issues assuming Meno when we really shouldn't be. I can't get anywhere near my GP, I mentioned on the phone about palpitations/irregular heartbeat and breathlessness while she was telling me she won't give me HRT but can prescribe a cocktail of other drugs to treat individual symptoms.

Yes i get terrible palpitations

Yes I had vertigo a couple of years ago but fortunately it hasn't come back.

I had this several years ago when perimenopausal and was told "Oh it's your age being a woman " 🙄

ammeg · 07/05/2022 13:10

Yes I have this and it’s definitely related to my hormones. It used to be just before my period but now it’s quite random since being peri menopausal. I take travel sickness tablets like sturgeon and they work but I try to take half as they make you drowsy.

I have suspected this for the last year or so. I get it only when walking or exercising vertically (e.g. cross trainer). Not sure whether or not it's related to peri. Started HRT last week for other symptoms so I'll know whether it helps the vertigo or not. Could be just balance issues to do with age.

Everything can be a meno symptom though according to some, the problem is deciding what is or isn't for you.
Someone brought the Louise Newson menopause symptom list into work without headings and asked all the staff to complete it. That diagnosed almost everyone in the place as having significant menopausal symptoms, including men and people of both sexes under 30
That doesn't minimise the severity of symptoms for some women but I do think attributing so much to it makes it hard to see what is or isn't related

This in a nutshell. Stop blaming everything on Meno it's unwise

I was ill bedridden at times. Referred to consultant had an MRI. It was diagnosed as vestibular neuritis. A follow on from a cold. Antibiotics and I was as right as rain again

@Azizai did anything help?

Pretty sure it was low B12. Since I've sorted that I've not had any issues.
