How did you get your prescription for testosterone

One of my reasons for starting HRT was lack of libido. I’ve been on it for 6 months and an now on 3 pumps of oestrogel as well as Utrogestan for 12 days but no sign of my libido returning. This makes me really sad and is effecting me quite a lot. It makes me feel old and past my prime. I think I might benefit from testosterone but have no idea how to get it. How did you manage to get your prescription if you’re on it?

@DillDanding sounds great! Can I ask what preparation you use and what dose you apply? I'm on Testogel sachets and apply a pea sized amount on alternate days and unfortunately don't have the effects you have. I wonder if I should apply a little more.

Franchannie · 06/11/2022 10:40

@pharmachameleon me too. I apply testogel every day - a pea sized amount and have had no effect so far after 5 weeks. Maybe it's too early idk...

pharmachameleon · 06/11/2022 10:49

@Franchannie who recommended you use it every day? Just checking before I double my dose-don't want to grow a beard! I have been on testosterone for about 5 years and while I don't notice amazing effects I would be loathe to stop it. I work out 4-5 times a week (strength and cardio) and have a mentally taxing job so maybe I wouldn't be able to do these things if I wasn't on testosterone. Who knows?

Hi @pharmachameleon
It was just the dose prescribed by the meno clinic. It's testogel 40.5 MG and I'm told to take 1/8th sachet per day...

I also have a mentally taxing job and cycle 7 miles into work but at the moment I'm barely holding it together....

At weekends I seriously struggle to get out of bed..

How long did it take for you to get yr strength, energy and mantal clarity back after starting testosterone?

@Franchannie it's hard to say as it was very gradual. I was diagnosed at 43 as peri menopausal at the same time as my GP found I had a majorly underactive thyroid. So between starting medication for my thyroid, starting HRT with testosterone and cutting out food triggers (wheat and lactose) I feel so much better. It was so gradual for me that it is tricky to pinpoint exactly when I felt better. Have you had other bloods checked to rule out any other problems?

Franchannie · 06/11/2022 16:10

@pharmachameleon so glad you are feeling better. Interesting to hear it has been gradual and maybe there's hope for me yet... But I may phone the meno clinic this week anyway.... just to check whether I shd do a blood test for hormone levels. I did a general blood test at the gp some months ago and all was normal. But I've been demotivated and on-and-off crying all weekend and I never used to be like this. Feel so lost.
