Any advice for patch application?

Rupertpenrysmistress · 30/04/2022 16:14

I have just started Evorel Sequi and applied my first patch last night. I placed it on my upper outer thigh but 2 corners are already peeling off. I followed the instructions waited after a bath, no body cream etc. I know I can apply another if it falls off but it doesn't bode well if I stay permanently on patches. Also it means I might run out and it can be difficult getting prescriptions early plus the shortage.

Any suggestions? Could find anything about covering the patch with another dressing although, I have a feeling I heard that effects absorption. Would appreciate any advice from people who have had success with keeping their patches on.

I use Evorel Sequi, usually they stay stuck. I put them on my bum cheek and I wear silky microfiber knickers that don't catch on them. I've never got them to stay on my thighs as my jeans rub them off.

I put mine within my bikini area but not quite on the pubic bone if that makes Sense. So right at the top of my legs beneath the pants line. Always stays on

Nat6999 · 01/05/2022 04:22

I'm having the same problem with ordinary Evorel patches, I'm going to buy some micropore tape.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/05/2022 04:31

You can put micopore tape on it to keep it in place. I work in care and residents have pain patches which stay on for a week. Or we know they will pick it off, we out a clear dressing over the patch.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/05/2022 04:32

Put, that should say.

starrynight21 · 01/05/2022 04:42

I put mine anywhere under my knickers, and I put a piece of Micropore over it. I don't believe that covering a patch stops it from absorbing.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/05/2022 05:23

The drug is on the sticky side of the patch.

Dilbertian · 01/05/2022 06:32

I find patches stick better if I put them on at almost any time other than just after washing. As I generally shower in the morning, I generally change the patch at bedtime. If I have to change at a time when I'm showering, I change the patch before I get in the shower.

Do you touch the sticky surface of the patch with your fingers when applying it?

WhereAreWeNow · 01/05/2022 08:41

I put mine on my hip/bum so it's hidden by my knickers. I don't put it on straight after a shower. Make sure there's no body lotion or oil on the area. Make sure you don't touch the sticky side. Do you peel off half the backing, apply the patch, and remove the other half of the backing as you apply it?

Rupertpenrysmistress · 01/05/2022 09:03

Thanks all. Very useful tips. It did read a tip that said if you notice the patch lifting up, place your hand over it to warm it up that seems to have sealed it back down. I do have that unpleasant black marks around it. Small price to pay.

Oh I do make sure I don't touch the patch underside and place it by removing half the backing at a time. I guess I was just a bit concerned as I know how hard it can be to access HRT so, don't want to replace any patches early.

Can I ask a question here as so many people have experience? What about swimming? Can you not swim if you are prescribed patches?

Mxflamingnoravera · 01/05/2022 13:21

I swim and patches don't stay put on me so I switched to gel.

TinaWeymouthsBass · 01/05/2022 17:34

Always put them under your knickers so your outer clothes don't rub them off, I've never had any luck on my thighs, I've been using patches for 5 years, I swim 3 times a week and sticking them on my bum have never had one lift off in fact I find them a nightmare to remove.

meloncolic · 01/05/2022 17:41

How do people remove the dreaded black outline?

Dilbertian · 01/05/2022 18:03

3 days rolling up and peeling off the residue on one buttock while patches are stuck to the other buttock. Then swap.

A bit like peeling glue off your fingers. Only you have to be a bit more discreet Grin

I used to get alcohol wipes (Clinimed?) but even they needed a bit of a scrub and I decided that I really didn't want to be scrubbing solvent into my skin twice a week. The marks are behind me - if I don't look I can't see them to be bothered by them.

RoyKentsChestHair · 01/05/2022 18:11

I was getting really sore and scabby where the patch was taken off, and the black glue marks stayed for days unless I rubbed and rubbed. Now I cover the patch with a clear wound dressing (can search for them as tattoo cover on Amazon etc) and the patches stay put, I don’t get the sores and I don’t get any glue residue.

Muffinsong · 01/05/2022 18:20

Make up remover removed the black lines from the patches, an oil based one, the ones you have to shake for them to mix, pop it on a cotton pad and it just rubs off!

iklboo · 01/05/2022 18:23

Micellar water helps get rid of my black lines.

Sisisimone · 01/05/2022 18:28

I've found that a quick blast of the hairdryer on hot seals the patch and it stays on. If I don't do this it comes off pretty quickly

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 01/05/2022 18:32

I put my patch on after a shower, and I locate it somewhere around my hip bone, under where my pants are.
However, I tend to fire my hairdryer over the skin area to get it really dry before applying, and I try and put some pressure on after I’ve applied the patch. They normally seem to stay put.

TriceratopsRocks · 01/05/2022 18:38

I put mine on usually about 10 mins after a shower, somewhere under my knicker area at the back. I swap sides each time. I swim regularly and I've never had a patch come off (in 16 months). The only issues I've had is when I've rushed to apply it and stuck it down badly (either a bit folded or trapped some skin), but that's been my fault and it's only happened a few times.

RoyKentsChestHair · 06/05/2022 20:37

Just noticed where I had my last patch on, it was a bit higher on my thigh and got wrinkled up when I sat down, I could feel the edges of it sometimes scratching when I sat down - it’s left a red mark, despite having been covered.

The one I have on at the moment (with dressing cover) isn’t red at all, as it’s a bit lower down so stays flat when I walk/sit.
