HRT with lamotrgine?

I take lamotrigine for bipolar disorder. I spoke to my GP about starting HRT today, but it seems that HRT interferes with the absorption of lamotrigine. Does anyone take these meds togther? Any advice?

I've taken them together (take mine for migraines) and no issues, had no change in symptoms.

I take both with no issues. It did make the levothyroxine slightly less effective though so I needed to increase the dose of that. I think you need to keep a close eye for symptoms and if you feel they've increased, ask your doctor (or a clinical pharmacist) for dosage advice.

Bumping this as I had a Mirena coil fitted for the progesterone part of HRT in anticipation of taking oestrogen too, to then be told I can’t take oestrogen with Lamotrigine - taken for Cyclothymia. I would never have had the coil fitted if I would have known this and it’s caused low mood, weight gain and acne. I want HRT due to osteoporosis running in the family and perimenopause symptoms. Not sure what to do now - any advice gratefully received - thank you ☺️

I’ve been taking HRT for a good many months now. No problems at all.

Historyrocks I am sosorry I have only just seen your post from back in March. Did you have to increase your lamotrigine dose? Did you consult with the Mental Health team or doctor first or just take it anyway? Thank you 😊

No, I didn’t need to increase the lamotrgine. My pdoc was fine with me taking the HRT. I recently increased the HRT dose and everything is still fine.

And I should add that I am super-sensitive to changes in meds but have been very well in spite of taking HRT. It’s definitely helped my anxiety, particularly since I increased the HRT dose.

Bumping this up as feeling a bit desperate.
Perimenopausal taking Lamotrigine due to see Dr for HRT. Has anyone tolerated this? Taken for mood stabilising not epilepsy
