Age for menopause / peri-menopause

I am almost 50 and I still don't think I have experienced anything specific to menopause. It is hard to tell as I have been through some stressful life events in the last five years but I haven't had any symptoms that can't be explained by stress. I am now mostly past the stress and the symptoms seem gone as well. I still have regular periods, no crazy hot flashes or insomnia. Everyone my age seems to be dealing with something that they attitribute to menopause but I can't really put my finger on anything specific.

Curious as to how many others hit 50 before noticing anything?

There is time...

53 for me before any symptoms kicked in, coinciding with periods stopping,

I started having irregular periods from about 53 and the odd night sweat. From about 55 it kicked in properly with the hot flushes my last one was at 56.

I've just said on another thread- I had periods, then went through a couple of "fuck I'm not pregnant am I?" followed by "oh, that must have been the menopause"

How smug was I.

Five or so years on I feel 90. Joint pain, muscle pain, my hair looks like I live in a hedge and I'd rather shove said hedge up my own doodah than have dp in there.

@JinglingHellsBells I've just namechecked you on another thread so some posters may be heading your way Brew

I'm wondering if it's too late for me to Do Something. I thought I was too far gone for intervention but apparently not. Hmm.

My periods became more regular, more frequent, and heavier. Although I didn’t think they were particularly heavy, I realised they were heavy enough when I was diagnosed with very low ferritin.
I got raging PMT, but I didn’t realise it was PMT, I just thought everyone in the house was irritating and wrong.
Ive had no hot flushes or sleep problems.
Not everyone gets every symptom.

@PAFMO definitely never too late to do something about it, the sooner you can start HRT the more benefits you can reap from it - if that’s the route you want to take of course.

I’m 41 and convinced I’ve been Peri for at least the last 2 years, so am gearing myself up to go back to the Dr and ask about my options.

51 here, went on HRT last year after friends telling me it was life changing. It was too for me. Sister is older than me but has had no symptoms.

Thank you!
Think I'll make an appt with my GP.

I'm 54 & can't confidently attribute any health changes to Peri. I'm not in meno yet.

My bra size went down by one cup... that may have happened 1-2 years ago, I was just in denial about it until now. This feels like the most significant change (and it is obviously a trivial thing).
