Perimenopause weight loss

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of losing weight during pedi-menopause? I've got a growing list of perimenopause symptoms but one outlier is weight loss. I haven't drastically changed what I eat and I don't do any exercise but am losing weight.

Anyone else had this? Obviously unexplained weight loss can signal something more serious so seeking reassurance that for some, weight loss, or weight gain, was normal for them.

And I have been to my GP but they were useless and made me feel like I was wasting their time.

Thanks in advance.

I think anything and everything can be on the list. What are your other symptoms?

This would be an unusual symptom. I would go back to the Dr. You could request blood tests including thyroid. Do you have any symptoms in the abdomen? Bloating, pain, change bowel habit, urinary symptoms? How much weight have you lost?

how much weight over how much time & what is your BMI now?

@LoveWillOvercome I lost loads of weight too, blood tests ruled out thyroid and nothing else was picked up by them. One explanation is due to anxiety, I was moving around a lot more and I lost my appetite and was eating smaller meals. Since starting HRT, my appetite has returned and hoping to get back to a healthy weight.

Usual stuff (I think)

Change in menstrual cycle
Heavier periods/ flooding
Acne/ really angry sore spots
Tiredness
Used to always be cold and now I'm always hot
Brain fog
Disrupted sleep
Tingly fingers/ arms
Itchy/dry skin
Thinning hair
Dizzy spells
Recurrent UTIs (4 lots of antibiotics since Jan, 6 in last year).

The last one is why I went to the GP and have been given a urology referral but they were awful about the wider symptoms and just made me feel like I was just trying to make it seem worse to get a referral! I just wanted to know how to not constantly have a UTI..

I don't ever weigh myself but bought a load of new underwear and some new pairs of jeans to be comfy in after my pandemic weight gain and have noticed they are now big (at the start of the year). I work from home and have done for years so my routine hasn't changed/ I.e. I haven't started moving more.

I'm not a very anxious person and sure my eating isn't that different....

Get checked for hyperthyroidism (overactive) many of the symptoms match.
