Oestrogel shortage - what to do??

My pharmacist can’t get any and I’ve been waiting for a new prescription to be filled. They appear to have not saved any for the repeat order and had a lot of walk ins. I don’t know how it works but they seem to bring up the repeats when I arrive rather than as they are sent (as in they are her ready to collect for me or the kids).
What can I try / suggest - I’m on progesterone and the gel??

Just to say I had no difficulty picking up my prescription from my local chemist today. Has the shortage ended or did I just get lucky?

The info from Besins (makers of Oestrogel) did say that htye hoped it would all improve by June. This is a combo of more production and the UK getting its fair share of that, compared to Europe where they have plenty of stock ( so a re-distribution situation.)

The other issue which Besin'swashed their hands of is warehouses. These supply pharmacies and it's up to the pharmacy to source the supply. I know (from a friend - pharmacist) that independent pharmacies can ring around for supplies and aren't tied to one warehouse.

I went to my GP today to ask about HRT for the first time and she sent a prescription to the pharmacy for Oestrogel and Ustrogan. I said oh I expect those are out of stock and she said no shortage here (south west). I’ve started them tonight!!

I got the rest of my owed prescription from Boots last week and they said they are finding it much easier to source Sandrena now but still having trouble getting the oestrogel pump bottles.

Wombat27A · 11/06/2022 21:43

My pharmacy is out of Sandrena now...

Not available now - went to collect oestrogel and they have a list of people waiting.

OneFrenchEgg · 17/06/2022 13:09

I'm wondering if I change to Pharmacy2U or something

If anyone (niche I know) is in W5 or W13 I’m having no trouble for oestrogel and if you PM me I can let you know the pharmacy. Sorry to those of you still struggling - it’s utterly shit.

Have you tried the Boots prescription checker online?
Be imaginative and put in some postcodes within a radius of your town, as it only shows availability within a small area.

No, I haven't really known what to do tbh because all our prescriptions go to the one chemist straight from the GP. So I'd have to ask them to not do that?

I don't have that as mine is a private prescription sent by post and I can take it where I want. You need to ask for a paper prescription then it means you can go anywhere.

OneFrenchEgg · 17/06/2022 16:42

Oh thank you, I'll ask if I can do that. Being tied to one place has disadvantages.
