HRT patches keep falling off!

I was on the gel and loved it but can't get it for love or money and have been given patches which I hate! Supposed to change them twice a week but they fall off after a day! What am I doing wrong? Put it on my thigh just below the knicker line.

Help please any professional patch wearers!

I do wonder why it's suggested you can use oestrogel on arms or legs, but the patches definitely say below the waist?

OuchitHurtstoomuch · 08/05/2022 01:16

I swim for an hour most day plus I play a lot of sport. My everol patches always stay put. I put them on the top of my bum cheeks. I alternate the side. They do leave an faint outline when I take them off but I don't care. It takes a moment to wash off.

I thought patches were meant to be worn Below the waist too.

I was wondering that too, I've only even seen the gel being applied to the top of arms so what's different about the patches?!

Please DON'T put patches above the waistline. This is due to an increased risk of breast cancer. The instructions do state this but can be in small print which is difficult to see.

My friend sees this specialist and has gel

Micropore tape works well

BitOutOfPractice · 01/06/2023 21:46

You can’t get gel? I ordered some this morning on nhs app and picked it up this afternoon 🤷‍♀️

moggerhanger · 01/06/2023 21:50

I have Evorel and find they stick almost too well - ouchy when peeled off! I stick them just below/behind my thigh, where the skin isn't particularly dry and doesn't rub against clothing.

thatsn0tmyname · 01/06/2023 21:53

Put the patch on the centre of your buttock and the minute you feel it curling up, stick a large knee plaster over the top.

fetchacloth · 01/06/2023 21:54

I use Evorel and they rarely come off. Occasionally a patch might loosen on one corner which I secure with a sticking plaster.
BTW, the patches should be placed below the waistline, upper/mid thigh is best as the skin in dryer there aiding adhesion.

Wordlewobble · 02/06/2023 06:27

Mine are fine. I don’t moisturise that area 24 hrs before and pat it well down and they almost always stay put. I put them on my bottom below the waistline and not near a knicker line.

Nutterjacks · 02/06/2023 06:36

I was previously on patches and had the same problem in the beginning.
After a few weeks of trying different areas, found the best place to stick them was on my outer thigh, halfway between my hip and my knee and then using a bit of surgical tape over the top.

Yes can be fiddly agree. Has anyones weight increased. I feel am gaining weight sleep no big improvement either.

HighlandCowbag · 02/06/2023 19:26

I use evorel patches and have no trouble whatsoever but I do put them on using the half backing bit off, stick that bit on then pull the other half off slowly as it sticks.

Baby oil on a flannel gets the residue off.

My 'FemSevenConti' patches are supposed to last 7 days but never do. Invariably they curl up and die after day 3/4. I actually think my skin rejects them. As my last bout of (horrific) meno symptoms and bleed was February I am hoping I am getting some benefit.

Was on the gel/tablet combo for a while but last summer the tablets were unavailable for some months. Apparently it was a global shortage to do with the pandemic and nothing to do with brexshit. I went over to France on holiday and the local pharmacy sold me 3 months with no problem the day after I arrived. (I took my prescription with me.)

That worried me as without HRT I get appalling stuff physical happening, so on my return went over to patches which I started in October. Only one bout of appalling stuff since then, so I am hoping they are doing something.

Badlifeday · 02/06/2023 21:00

I had problems getting oestrogel for a while but it's been fine in recent months. Never felt I was getting a full dose with patches as they didn't stay on me well

Gah, I meant hip, not thigh! Upper backside, basically.

Me too, I find them quite hard to remove but a bit of baby oil removes the sticky residue.

I alternate between each thigh when I change them.

Missymarple · 02/06/2023 23:45

I use Evorel on the side of my hip below the waistband so nothings rubs. I've never had a problem with them falling off, I apply mine at night before I go to bed so nothing is particularly moisturised. My skin is not a fan of baby oil so I remove the black sticky residue with nail varnish remover on a cotton pad, works a treat.

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 10/08/2023 10:35

I’ve been using Evorel 50 patches since February and, apart from the fluffy residue left by the edges of the patches I was getting on great with them until about 8 weeks ago when they started lifting in the middle of the patch, creasing and crumpling and generally losing contact with my skin. This makes me worry that I’m not getting the full dose and I find I’m having to replace them sooner (last one I changed yesterday instead of today as it was coming off; it’s not even last 24 hours and even putting durapore tape over it hasn’t stopped it coming off) so the pack of patches isn’t letting the length of time it’s supposed to. I always wash my skin with shower gel or soap and don’t use any moisturisers so can’t even say it’s because of that.

I think I’m going to try some tegaderm or Hypafix over it next and see if that makes any difference otherwise I’m going to have to speak to my GP about switching to something else, but I’m wary of gel when I hear people have issues getting it because my local pharmacies already have issues at times getting the Utrogestan capsules and the most recent prescription request ended up with them sending me pessaries instead.
